Hybrid – Head Office and field-based role across Young\’s estate of 280 pubsAbout UsYoung\’s pubs and rooms are at the heart of our local communities, with more than 280 pubs predominantly within London and the South of England. Each individual and differentiated in style and offering, from traditional pubs steeped in history to secret underground cocktail bars, the character and individuality of each of our businesses is what makes Young\’s unique.The RoleThis is a new role at Young\’s which will support management in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance (from Health and Safety to Sustainability). We are looking for an exceptional candidate, who will get under the skin of our unique culture and values. You should be an expert in all things Health and Safety when it comes to pub and kitchen operations, driving best practice, and ensuring our pubs meet and exceed regulations. You\’ll work closely with our environmental consultants Food Alert to shape our health and safety agenda. Coupled with that you will be the front facing person who supports our pub managers, operations teams, and senior leadership team to make sure our people and pubs are safe, compliant, and committed to our sustainability goals. From energy efficiency to allergen awareness, you\’ll be at the heart of our operational integrity.The role is widespread and covers many areas of the business, so an ability to influence across departments is a must.Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including food safety, fire safety, and occupational health.
- Work closely with our executive team to ensure they are up to date on all areas of the role.
- Manage relationships with external partners and advisors.
- Assist the company secretariat with the management of insurance claims and the reporting of compliance matters to the board and to shareholders in the annual report.
- Conduct regular audits and site visits to assess compliance and provide hands-on guidance.
- Work with Food Alert to develop and deliver training, support on EHO visits and upskill teams in safety practices.
- Manage our Health and Safety System, Alert65 (from Food Alert) and ensure all information and risk assessments are relevant and up to date
- Review existing company procedures and recommend improvements or additions to senior management.
- Act as the go-to expert for regulatory updates and industry best practice.
- Shape the long-term strategy and implement sustainability initiatives across the estate
- Commercially assess ESG actions and the long-term strategy to fit with the wider business
Proven experience in a compliance or health & safety role within a hospitality, multi-site environment.
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence senior management and pub management teams
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and environmental legislation.
- Strong communication skills – able to engage and influence.
- Highly organised, efficient, with excellent attention to detail.
- A hands-on, proactive approach, with drive to make a real impact.
