The Engineering Compliance Manager ensures that all engineering plants, equipment, and systems across the group operate in full alignment with UK health and safety legislation, statutory inspection requirements, and recognized engineering standards. This role safeguards the business by making sure engineering risks are controlled, legal duties are met, and compliance is embedded into everyday engineering practices within a demanding food manufacturing environment. As the group's authority for engineering compliance, the role provides support to site senior leadership teams, ensuring that assets are safe, compliant, and effectively managed.
The Ideal Candidate
- HNC in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline - or equivalent proven experience.
- Solid understanding of UK engineering health and safety legislation and its practical application.
- Proven experience managing statutory compliance in an industrial or food manufacturing environment.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely.
- Additional training in PUWER, LOLER, and PSSR inspections including industrial steam boilers.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Maintain full compliance with key UK engineering legislation, including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, DSEAR, EAWR, industrial steam boilers standards, and other relevant regulations.
- Own the statutory inspection programme, ensuring Written Schemes of Examination, registers, and certifications are up to date and robust.
- Ensure statutory defects and non-conformances are risk assessed, prioritised, tracked, and closed out within required timescales.
- Conduct internal engineering compliance audits and produce clear, accurate reports that document findings, assess performance, outline risks, and define structured action plans for improvement.
- Support machinery safety, guarding improvements, and engineering modifications in line with legal and industry best-practice standards.
- Work closely with competent contractors, inspection bodies, and internal teams to maintain high standards of engineering integrity.
- Act as the Group subject matter expert for engineering statutory requirements, supporting Engineering, Operations, H&S.
