Our client is a rapidly growing EV infrastructure specialist delivering installation, maintenance, and support services for commercial and domestic electric vehicle charging solutions across the UK. As demand for EV charging continues to accelerate, they are looking for an experienced and motivated EV Maintenance & Installation Engineer to join our head office team. This is a field-based role that combines hands-on installation work with ongoing maintenance, testing, inspection, and fault-finding across a wide range of AC and DC charging equipment. The successful candidate must be comfortable travelling throughout the UK and staying away from home when required.

Job Purpose

The EV Maintenance & Installation Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, fault-finding, repairing, testing, and commissioning EV charging infrastructure across commercial and domestic environments. The role also includes supporting new commercial installations and ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally, and in accordance with current industry regulations and EAS compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • EV Charger Maintenance & Fault Finding
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on AC and DC EV charging systems.
    • Diagnose and repair faults on commercial and domestic charging infrastructure.
    • Respond to reactive maintenance call-outs and emergency breakdowns.
    • Complete detailed service reports and maintenance records.
  • Installation & Commissioning
    • Install, test, and commission commercial EV charging systems.
    • Support larger commercial projects involving three-phase supplies, containment systems, and distribution equipment.
    • Assist with domestic EV charger installations when required.
    • Ensure all installations comply with current BS 7671 regulations and manufacturer requirements.
  • Inspection & Testing
    • Conduct electrical inspection and testing of EV charging installations.
    • Complete Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
    • Verify system performance and safety prior to handover.
  • Client Support
    • Act as a professional representative of Mr Charger on customer sites.
    • Provide customer handovers and end user training.
    • Communicate effectively with site managers, facilities teams, and end users.
  • Travel & Field Work
    • Travel regularly to customer sites throughout the UK.
    • Undertake occasional overnight stays where project locations require.
    • Manage workload independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.

Essential Qualifications & Compliance

  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services (or recognised equivalent).
  • Valid ECS or CSCS Card.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671, latest amendment).
  • Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points (City & Guilds 2921-34, EAL, NICEIC or equivalent).
  • Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection & Testing (City & Guilds 2391-52 or equivalent).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Experience & Skills

  • Essential
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience working on commercial electrical installations and maintenance.
    • Experience working on three-phase systems.
    • Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
    • Experience installing and maintaining EV charging infrastructure.
    • Ability to work independently and manage site activities effectively.
    • Strong understanding of electrical safety procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Desirable
    • Experience working with AC and DC rapid charging equipment.
    • Familiarity with OCPP platforms and charge point management software.
    • Experience with load balancing systems and smart charging technologies.
    • Evidence of ongoing CPD and industry training.
