At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. We’re looking for a Commercial Manager to join our Rail (Land) business, based at Cadder Yard with hybrid working.
The role:
As Commercial Manager, you’ll take ownership of the commercial performance of multiple projects, ensuring contracts are managed effectively and financial outcomes are protected. You’ll lead and develop a team of commercial professionals, provide expert advice to project teams, and act as a trusted partner to clients and senior stakeholders.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Lead the commercial management of a portfolio of rail works, ensuring profitability and compliance.
- Manage cost control, revenue, forecasting, and cash collection processes.
- Oversee contracts, change control, and claims to protect the company’s commercial position.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Lead, coach, and develop commercial team members to drive high performance.
This is a full-time, permanent role, working 35 hours per week, with a hybrid pattern of three days on site at Cadder Yard, Scotland and two days working from home.
Essential Experience of the Commercial Manager:
- Strong commercial leadership experience within construction, rail, or infrastructure environments.
- Proven ability to manage complex contracts and commercial risk.
- Confident communicator and negotiator, able to influence at all levels.
- Commercially astute with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
Qualifications for the Commercial Manager:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification.
- Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or working towards (desirable).
