Mortimer House School is looking to recruit a skilled and experienced Maths teacher to join their team of enthusiastic and passionate professionals to work with their vulnerable learners to further enhance the provision for young people with EHC Plans. As a secondary (Key stage 3, 4 and 5) school specialising in educating young people with SEMH, PACE and emotion coaching are used to support pupils in achieving their educational goals. A trauma informed and restorative approach is used to meet the universal needs of young people who are overcoming adversity in their lives. Mortimer House School uses a broad and bespoke curriculum for pupils where equity and opportunity enables them to make holistic progress. Positive outcomes and preparation for adulthood is essential for these young people who can stay at Mortimer House until they are 18 years old.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A deep understanding of mathematics and be able to effectively communicate complex ideas in a range of ways
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sound awareness of and clear ability to safeguard children
- Ability to develop appropriate positive relationships, with clear personal boundaries and maintain professionalism
- A growth mindset
- Resilience and the ability to adapt to change for the needs of the pupils
- Ability to work within an established team
- Emotional awareness/intelligence
Qualities desired
- Recent experience of teaching in a SEN setting (during the past 3 years)
- Evidence of successful teaching experience with vulnerable children
- Good interpersonal skills and emotional resilience in working with children
- Up to date knowledge of Local Authority and National expectations for SEND including 2014 SEND Code of Practice including knowledge of EHCP and their implementation
- Ability to work well autonomously and use initiative effectively
- Confidence to review own performance and undertake continuous professional learning
- Additional qualifications in SEND
As a maths teacher at Mortimer House School you will:
- Teach in a small SEND provision supporting young people with a range of needs that includes those with ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties or trauma
- Have empathy for and an understanding of young people with mental health & complex needs
- Contribute to EHCP reviews and meetings
- Plan and teach schemes of work and lessons which support academic progress of pupils in line with their personalised outcomes for the subject including Functional skills or GCSEs
- Complete all safeguarding, prevent, foundations for safer care and mandatory training annually
- Promote, develop and sustain positive relationships which include parents and carers, other agencies and community partnerships
- Engage in staff meetings and INSET
- Promote Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural opportunities within lessons at each opportunity
