Registered Manager, Children's Home (Solo Placements)

Young Crisis Hub, part of Young Wellbeing Group

Permanent, full time

About us

Young Crisis Hub provides specialist care for children and young people in crisis, including those with the highest levels of risk and need. We are part of Young Wellbeing Group, which grew out of CAMHS Professionals, a specialist clinical staffing agency with over a decade of experience in child and adolescent mental health.

That clinical background shapes everything we do. Our homes are therapeutically led, trauma informed and built around a single child, so every young person has a consistent team, a calm environment and a plan that is truly theirs.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced manager to lead two solo placement homes in Roydon, near Harlow, and to become the Ofsted Registered Manager for both.

Each home cares for one young person subject to a Deprivation of Liberty (DoL) order, often placed at short notice following a crisis or placement breakdown. You will lead the established home from day one and take the new home through Ofsted registration, building its team, policies and Statement of Purpose alongside our Responsible Individual.

This is a role for a manager who wants real ownership: shaping a service from the ground up, with the backing of a group that understands high risk care.

Please read before applying: the named child arrangement

Where Ofsted and the placing local authority agree, we may care for a named child at the new home while its registration is being decided. This supports an expedited registration and means a young person can move into the right home sooner.

Being open to leading the home through this period is a condition of the role. In practice it means:

  • Managing the home safely and lawfully under the DoL order and any conditions set by the court, Ofsted and the local authority
  • Working closely with Ofsted, the placing authority, the child's social worker and IRO, and the legal team on the order
  • Keeping detailed records that evidence the quality of care and support the registration decision
  • Preparing for and attending your Ofsted fit person interview while the home is operating

We will talk this through openly at interview and support you at every step.

Key responsibilities

Care and safeguarding

  • Ensure each young person receives safe, therapeutic, individualised care in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for both homes, managing risk, incidents, missing episodes and LADO referrals
  • Ensure all restrictions are lawful, proportionate, authorised by the order, regularly reviewed and clearly recorded
  • Lead placement planning, risk assessments, behaviour support plans and transitions with the child's network

Registration and compliance

  • Lead the new home's Ofsted registration, including the Statement of Purpose, location risk assessment and policies
  • Register with Ofsted as Registered Manager and complete the fit person process
  • Keep both homes inspection ready and manage Regulation 44 and 45 reporting
  • Submit Regulation 40 notifications and keep the court, local authority and Ofsted informed as orders require

Leadership and staffing

  • Recruit, induct, supervise and appraise staff across both homes using safer recruitment practice
  • Build stable, consistent teams and rotas that meet each child's staffing ratios
  • Develop the team in de-escalation, trauma informed practice and the legal framework around DoL orders
  • Take part in the senior on call rota

Partnerships and resources

  • Build strong relationships with placing authorities, social workers, IROs, CAMHS, health, education and police
  • Manage budgets, maintenance and health and safety across both homes
  • Contribute to the development of new solo placement provision across the group

About you

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent, or willingness to complete it within the regulatory timeframe
  • At least 2 years' experience in children's residential care within the last 5 years, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role
  • Experience caring for young people with complex, high risk needs
  • Sound knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, safeguarding and DoL orders
  • Willingness to care for a named child at the new home during registration, with Ofsted and local authority agreement
  • Calm under pressure, child centred, resilient and a confident leader
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one), full UK driving licence and ability to join the on call rota
  • Previous Ofsted Registered Manager experience
  • Experience opening or registering a new children's home
  • Experience of solo or DoL placements, or of supporting young people stepping down from Tier 4 CAMHS
  • A social work, nursing or mental health qualification
  • Living within 30 minutes of Harlow

What we offer

  • Competitive salary plus a bonus on successful Ofsted registration of the new home
  • Paid on call
  • Funded Level 5 Diploma if not already held
  • Clinical input and reflective supervision drawn from our CAMHS background
  • A leadership role in a growing group, with clear progression into senior and multi site roles
  • Workplace pension and annual leave
