You will be expected to work every other weekend, with one of those weekends including an on‑call retainer that requires you to be responsive across the weekend. You First operates across Somerset, so you must be prepared to travel regularly within the county and surrounding areas.

Rate of Pay

  • Hourly Rate: ÂŁ15.05
  • Weekend on‑call retainer: ÂŁ150

Working Hours & Shift Pattern

  • Shifts: 07:00‑15:00 or 14:00‑22:00 (four weekdays, Monday‑Friday)
  • Option for some home working outside office opening times.

On‑Call

  • Part of weekly on‑call rota (additional pay)
  • Cover one weekend on‑call retainer in four (paid ÂŁ150 + hourly rate from the time you leave your home)

Role Overview

The Team Leader is a front‑line operational management role that supports the day‑to‑day operation of You First Support Services. You will work alongside your designated Locality Manager (Registered Manager) to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations in line with our person‑centred approach. Your work will involve a mix of administrative duties and direct support.

Time Allocation

Approximately 70% hands‑off duties (administration, quality & compliance support in client homes) and 30% hands‑on support (direct care). These figures are estimates and may vary based on business needs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver one‑to‑one supervision sessions to support workers.
  • Role‑model best practice in positive behaviour support and communication.
  • Complete return‑to‑work interviews with support workers.
  • Review and audit records and create action plans in line with your line manager.
  • Observe social care practice, including medication assessments.
  • Support key compliance functions such as audits and service visits.
  • Update care plans, including mental capacity assessments and related documents.
  • Cover on‑call retainer weekends, being available to cover last‑minute support worker absences.
  • Write and cover the support worker roster.
  • Use, monitor, and audit digital systems.
  • Take direction from your Locality Manager and promote best practice.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operational functions in line with organisational policy and procedure.

Essential Requirements

  • Full driving licence and reliable car with business insurance; ability to travel across Somerset and surrounding counties.
  • Level 3 in Health and Social Care or commitment to achieving this.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations calmly, managing risk.
  • Creative and innovative problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capability to work independently and on own initiative.
  • Maintains professional confidentiality and promotes dignity and respect.
  • Can remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Works with Locality Managers or Business Operations Manager to complete quality assurance and compliance tasks such as medication competencies.
  • Flexible, team‑oriented, and embraces diversity and equality of opportunity.
  • Prioritises health and wellbeing of the people supported.
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with autistic people and those with learning disabilities or complex needs.

Duties to Include

  • Deliver services based on expressed wishes, cultural needs, and support plans of users.
  • Assist users to make choices and life decisions in line with the Mental Capacity Act.
  • Facilitate access to local social and community facilities.
  • Encourage participation in everyday home, social, leisure, and work activities.
  • Support users to manage their own homes and tenancies.
  • Provide direct personal care (e.g., toileting, bathing) as required by the support plan.
  • Work as a positive, constructive, and enthusiastic team member.
  • Ensure users take prescribed medication under qualified professionals.
  • Promote communication skills to support personal development.
  • Deliver planned activities that provide stimulation.
  • Follow confidential processes for collecting, handling, and storing information; maintain appropriate records.
  • Communicate information effectively to users and relevant parties.
  • Contribute to statistical returns and secure financial record‑keeping, including users’ finances.
  • Assist in Life Design assessment and development of Person‑Centred Support Plans with team colleagues, users, families, and professionals.
  • Advises users on basic personal finance and local shopping activities when required.
  • Support team colleagues and respond to users’ immediate health and wellbeing needs, ensuring timely assistance.
  • Maintain daily contact with a range of health and social care professionals and other agencies; share and receive information.
  • Participate in meetings as a member of the care support team.
  • Take responsibility for personal and professional development; access training as required.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to new staff; undertake wake‑in nights and sleep‑ins as directed.
