We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Core App & Family Experience team on a 3-month contract, starting immediately. You'll work on shaping the end-to-end experience for new families in their first 30 days, from unboxing and onboarding through to the moments that turn first-time users into long-term fans. This is a hands-on role. We need someone who can hit the ground running, bring strong UI craft and visual design sensibility, and work closely with our product designers, researchers, engineers and PMs to deliver high-quality, shippable work quickly.
About Yoto
Yoto is a screen-free interactive audio platform for kids. We make carefully connected audio players that kids control, with no microphones, cameras or ads. We have a catalogue of audio that inspires creative play and learning with 1,000+ titles in our card store from top creators, publishers and labels - think Disney, Marvel, Roald Dahl and Universal Music. We also create Yoto Originals like BrainBots.
What you’ll be doing:
- Own design for complex, high-impact areas (such as new family onboarding, or core app experiences such as navigation, account, settings, playback), from early discovery through to shipped outcomes, with clear links to customer behaviour and business impact.
- Design end-to-end journeys across multiple touchpoints, creating a coherent experience from unboxing to everyday use.
- Shape onboarding and setup so families can quickly understand how Yoto works and experience its value from day one.
- Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Hardware to design within real-world constraints, making pragmatic trade-offs without compromising quality.
- Use research and real-world observation (e.g. at home, during routines) to understand how families interact with Yoto and turn insights into meaningful improvements.
- Align stakeholders across product, hardware, marketing, and brand, bringing clarity where priorities or opinions differ.
- Make confident decisions in ambiguity, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals to move work forward.
- Deliver high-quality design with strong craft (from interaction design and flows through to visual detail), suited to both emotional and functional needs.
- Communicate your work clearly and persuasively, using storytelling and artefacts to build alignment.
- Contribute to critique and team discussions, helping raise the bar for quality and execution.
What you’ll bring:
- A portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex product work, from discovery to shipped solutions, and the impact on users and the business.
- Experience designing for native apps (iOS/Android) and web, with shipped work demonstrating strong understanding of platform conventions and interaction patterns.
- Strong examples demonstrating high-quality UI and visual design for native apps.
- Experience working in ambiguous or evolving problem spaces, with the ability to frame problems and drive to clear outcomes.
- Experience designing across multiple touchpoints or systems (e.g. onboarding journeys, ecosystems, or connected experiences), ensuring consistency across surfaces.
- Ability to simplify complex or technical problems into intuitive experiences (especially in key moments such as first-time use, setup, or core journeys).
- Strong collaboration with cross-functional partners (Product, Engineering and ideally Hardware or Brand), influencing decisions beyond design.
- A high bar for craft (including interaction design, attention to detail, and, where relevant, visual design).
- Clear communication skills, able to articulate rationale, trade-offs, and decisions in a way that builds trust and alignment.
Nice to have:
- Experience working on consumer products used daily by families or children.
- Experience working on onboarding, setup, or early lifecycle journeys where clarity and ease of use are critical.
