We’re looking for a Mid-Level Frontend Engineer to join our team to build and optimise high-performing e-commerce experiences that help new families discover, understand, and confidently become part of the Yoto family.

About Yoto

Yoto is a screen-free interactive audio platform for kids. We make carefully connected audio players that kids control, with no microphones, cameras or ads. We have a catalogue of audio that inspires creative play and learning with 1,000+ titles in our card store from top creators, publishers and labels - think Disney, Marvel, Roald Dahl and Universal Music. We also create Yoto Originals like BrainBots.

We’re on a mission to be the soundtrack of childhood, and help families on their own unique adventures. By creating products that inspire independent play, we help families discover and grow with an inspiring world of audio - and we would like you to help us achieve it!

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and maintain a modern headless e-commerce storefront using Next.js and React, integrated with Shopify (including Shopify checkout).
  • Deliver polished, accessible UI using CSS Modules and a Storybook-based design system, contributing components and patterns as you go.
  • Improve conversion and purchase clarity across key journeys (Homepage → PDP → Basket → Checkout), shipping incremental enhancements with measurable impact.
  • Implement and support CRO and A/B testing, working with product and analytics to define hypotheses, instrument events and evaluate outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with design and product to translate intent into reliable, performant experiences—balancing speed of iteration with quality.
  • Maintain a high engineering bar through code review, testing, documentation and thoughtful technical decisions (performance, SEO, maintainability).

What you’ll bring

  • Experience building production web apps with React and modern frontend patterns (components, hooks, state management, performance).
  • Hands‑on experience with Next.js (routing, server/client rendering concepts, data fetching, performance and SEO fundamentals).
  • Strong CSS skills and experience with modular CSS approaches (e.g. CSS Modules, BEM, design tokens, responsive layouts).
  • Comfort working with a component library / design system and ideally contributing to it (Storybook familiarity is a plus).
  • Experience integrating with APIs and third‑party platforms; you can navigate unfamiliar systems and ship reliable integrations.
  • A pragmatic, collaborative mindset: you communicate clearly, take ownership and enjoy iterating based on feedback and data.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Shopify (Storefront API, Shopify Functions/Discounts, checkout integration, themes/headless patterns).
  • Experience running or implementing experimentation (ABTasty, Optimizely, Statsig, homemade frameworks), plus analytics instrumentation (GA4, Heap, Snowplow, etc.).

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 based on experience

What you can expect from Yoto

  • Flexibility: Hybrid working – expectation of 1 day a week in our London office, but you are welcome to come in more than this. Up to 6 weeks of work‑from‑anywhere per year and Summer Hours policy.
  • Financial: Income Protection, Life Assurance, Pension up to 3% employer contributions, generous referral bonus.
  • Health & Wellness: Private Medical Insurance, wellbeing allowance, 24/7 EAP, dental advice, bike to work scheme.
  • Time Off: 25 days holiday + bank holidays, birthday off, 1 extra day per year after 2 years, up to 3‑month sabbatical after 4 years.
  • Helping Families: Family‑friendly leave, nursery scheme, maternity/paternity/adoption leave.
  • People & Planet: Up to 2 volunteer days a year, book allowance up to £50.
  • Fun Perks: Yoto player & starter pack of cards, company socials, YotoFest.
