We’re looking for a Mid-Level Android Engineer to help us to continually build the Yoto Android app.

Yoto’s Core App Team
We look after the Yoto apps, building out new & exciting features to continually delight our customers. The apps are designed to support parents giving them access to their whole library, enable them to make their own content and to set player settings. The apps are also available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Tech stack: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Flows and Coroutines, Auth0, Okhttp, Retrofit, Moshi, Koin, Coil, Wiremock, Firebase, Bufgender, Espresso UI tests.
What you’ll be doing :
- Write clean and robust code following good development principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS, YAGNI)
- Use TDD incl. unit, integration and end-to-end tests and be prepared to write tests for all feature delivery
- Get involved in architecture, standards and tooling decisions
- Take part in researching, estimating and prioritising features for the roadmap
- Work with the Player OS and Platform teams to deliver features
What you’ll bring:
- Proven experience of Android app development
- Understanding of Android app development design patterns and native Android SDKs
- Jetpack Compose
- Understanding of Android Modern Architecture, MVVM, MVP, MVC etc.
- Experience consuming 3rd party APIs and familiarity with standard authentication mechanisms (OAuth/Auth0)
- Ability to work in a fast paced scale-up environment
- Comfortable in contributing to discussions and presenting your solutions
Nice to have:
- Device testing in the cloud (Firebase, Bitrise or other)
- Cloud based infrastructures (AWS), serverless development
- Experience with popular IoT protocols (RFID/NFC, Bluetooth/BLE, WiFi, MQTT)
- Understanding responsive design principles, speed optimisation techniques, web standards, accessibility
- Media streaming and audio processing (codecs, live streaming, normalisation, etc)
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 based on experience
What you can expect from Yoto:
- Flexibility: Hybrid working – expectation of 1 day a week on average in our London office, but you are welcome to come in more than this. How you meet the minimum expectation is up to you, to ensure you\’re happy and productive in your role whilst also getting that vital face time with your colleagues. Take advantage of our ‘work from anywhere’ policy to work from a different location for up to 6 weeks every year. Summer Hours policy to use between the months of June and August.
