We're looking for a Security Engineer to join our team to help build secure products and infrastructure across every part of Yoto.

About Yoto

Yoto is a screen‑free interactive audio platform for kids. We make carefully connected audio players that kids control, with no microphones, cameras or ads. We have a catalogue of audio that inspires creative play and learning with 1,000+ titles in our card store from top creators, publishers and labels - think Disney, Marvel, Roald Dahl and Universal Music. We also create Yoto Originals like BrainBots.

We're on a mission to be the soundtrack of childhood, and help families on their own unique adventures. By creating products that inspire independent play, we help families discover and grow with an inspiring world of audio - and we would like you to help us achieve it!

Yoto's Technology Team

Our Technology team builds and operates the platform that powers everything Yoto does — from the firmware on our players to the cloud services that deliver audio to kids around the world. Security sits at the heart of this: as a small, cross‑cutting team, we partner with every part of the business to make sure what we build is secure by design. You'll work alongside engineers, product managers, and teams across Legal and Data — helping us grow a security function that's as curious and creative as the product it protects.

What you'll be doing

  • Partner with engineering teams to design, build and ship secure products and features.
  • Review code, infrastructure and system designs for security risks, and work directly with teams to resolve them.
  • Build and improve security tooling, automation and guardrails that help security scale across Yoto.
  • Maintain and strengthen our security controls, monitoring and detection capabilities.
  • Investigate security issues and incidents, coordinating response and remediation across the business.
  • Partner with Legal, Data and other teams to improve security practices and support compliance.

What you'll bring

  • Deep interest in security with hands‑on experience across at least one area — whether that's product security, cloud infrastructure, detection engineering, or compliance — and a genuine appetite to grow into others.
  • A specialist foundation in security, with the curiosity and drive to become a well‑rounded security engineer over time.
  • Comfortable writing and reviewing code in at least one modern programming language.
  • Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across technical and non‑technical teams alike.
  • A collaborative mindset and a genuine commitment to helping others build secure systems — not just flagging problems, but solving them together.

Nice to have

  • Experience with embedded systems or IoT security.
  • Experience securing AWS or other cloud environments.
  • Experience with incident response or detection engineering.

Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 based on experience

What you can expect from Yoto

  • Take advantage of our ‘work from anywhere’ policy to work from a different location for up to 6 weeks every year.
  • Summer Hours policy to use between the months of June and August.

  • After 4 years of service, you are also eligible for our sabbatical policy offering up to 3 months' of unpaid sabbatical.
  • Variety of family‑friendly leave, including enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, fertility, pregnancy loss and carers leave.
  • Unlock savings with our workplace nursery scheme, designed to support parents of preschool‑aged children.
  • Up to 2 volunteer days a year.
