Do you enjoy working outdoors, analysing data, and ensuring environmental compliance? If so, Yorwaste has the perfect opportunity for you to join our team as an Environmental Monitoring Technician.
The Role:
In this key role, you’ll be responsible for conducting routine and ad-hoc sampling and analysis of groundwater, surface water, effluents, and landfill gases. You’ll ensure all samples are processed correctly, sent to laboratories, and results are accurately recorded in our environmental data system (MonitorPro).
You’ll also produce clear and informative reports for internal teams and external regulators, carry out audits to ensure compliance with environmental permits, and support wider restoration and aftercare projects. The role involves liaising with suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies, and providing cover for the Closed Landfill & Gas Supervisor when needed.
What You’ll Bring:
We’re looking for someone who has:
- A landfill WAMITAB certificate, or a commitment to obtain one as a compulsory requirement.
- A science-based qualification or relevant experience.
- A Full UK Driving Licence with no bans or disqualifications.
- Good understanding of waste management environmental issues and relevant regulations.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Willingness to work towards IOSH & CDM qualifications (training provided).

What we can offer
We are offering a salary of £28,000 per year, on a full-time, permanent contract. We can offer 24 days’ holiday per year, plus bank holidays, increasing annually (1 day per years’ service completed) to 28 days’ after 4 years’ continuing employment.

We offer flexible working hours and are open to hybrid working after a successful probationary period. Site locations to become your possible base include Northallerton, Thirsk, York and Scarborough with some hybrid working.
