Avantor is seeking a dedicated and driven Research Technician (Histopathology) to join our team in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting biomarker research by helping with human tissue samples, managing consumables for the group and supporting performing histopathological techniques such as tissue sectioning and slide preparation. You'll work closely with scientists and stakeholders to ensure efficient sample tracking, inventory management and laboratory operations.
This full-time, permanent position is based at our state-of-the-art facility at The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The Team: You'll be working alongside a skilled team supporting automated immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and in situ hybridization assays. You'll be part of our Lab and Production Services department, which provides comprehensive support to leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, particularly within Research and Development in the Life Sciences sector.
What We're Looking For:
- Education: Degree in biosciences or life sciences (or equivalent experience)
- Experience: Practical laboratory experience, particularly in histopathology, tissue sectioning, and slide scanning
- Proficient in sample tracking and inventory management systems, ideally with experience using LIMS and electronic sample management tools
- Good understanding of regulatory and safety standards, including GCP, HTA, SHE, and COSHH, and a willingness to follow SOPs and training requirements
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, capable of working collaboratively with internal scientists and external partners
How You Will Thrive And Make An Impact:
- Support scientists by assisting in daily histopathology tasks, including immunohistochemistry, digital slide scanning, and tissue sectioning from blocks
- Perform automated staining techniques on clinical trial tissue samples to aid in biomarker analysis
- Contribute to lab operations within the Clinical Translational Pathology area, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality data
- Ensure strict compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards while performing laboratory tasks
- Collaborate with the team to maintain accurate documentation and uphold laboratory safety and quality standards
