This full‑time, permanent position is based at the brand‑new The Discovery Centre on the Bio‑Medical Campus in Cambridge. The Laboratory Technician will support bioreactor operations, including preparing media, feeds, and reagents across a range of bioreactor scales – from bench to large‑scale systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assembling and cleaning bioreactor vessels and glassware.
  • Maintaining equipment and calibrating instruments.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to resolve issues.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five GCSEs, including Maths, English, and at least one Science subject; A‑Levels or equivalent qualifications and prior laboratory experience desirable.
  • Hands‑on laboratory experience, particularly in a similar role.
  • Strong attention to detail, good organisational and planning skills.
  • IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, eager to learn; able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Excellent customer service focus, clear written and verbal communication, confidence in problem‑solving, and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare bioreactor reagents, including media, feeds, and buffers across various scales.
  • Assemble, clean, and maintain benchtop bioreactor vessels and laboratory glassware.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment; report issues and coordinate with engineers for resolution.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of critical reagents and general lab supplies; support procurement activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organised lab environment; contribute to 5S initiatives and adhere to health and safety regulations including CoSHH.
