You will play a central role in embedding evidence‑led decision‑making across the Trust, ensuring our work is targeted, effective, and responsive to a changing environment.

Sitting at the intersection of ecology, technology, and policy, you will lead the integration of scientific evidence into conservation planning, strategy, and funding proposals, while working closely with practitioners, academics, and partner organisations. You will oversee key research and monitoring initiatives, including ecological modelling and landscape‑scale data analysis, ensuring outputs are robust, relevant, and influence conservation outcomes across Yorkshire.

You will also lead the development of our data and insight capability, establishing strong data governance, standards, and systems while championing the use of innovative technologies such as GIS, remote sensing, AI, drones, acoustics, and eDNA. Working collaboratively with Digital Transformation and IT teams, you will ensure data systems are secure, integrated, and aligned with organisational needs, while delivering high‑quality reports, visualisations, and insights that communicate impact effectively.

You will bring strong experience in working with applied scientific data, including designing research, analysing complex and spatial datasets, and producing clear, insightful outputs for varied audiences. You will be confident using GIS and analytical tools such as R or Python, with strong statistical and modelling skills, and a thorough understanding of data quality, governance, and reproducibility.

An experienced and collaborative leader, you will have the ability to motivate teams and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, combining excellent communication skills with the ability to translate data into compelling, evidence‑based narratives. You will also demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills, a strategic mindset, and a deep commitment to nature conservation.
