Fixed term contract for one year with potential to extend. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Nature Based Solutions (NBS) Assistant. The NBS Assistant will support the NBS & Planning Team to strategically identify, develop and deliver exemplar NBS activities to drive nature’s recovery across Yorkshire, drawing upon emerging best practices and markets, novel approaches and data/evidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Help deliver NBS projects through desktop studies, baseline site assessments (e.g. UKHab survey), metric calculations, and professional reports (e.g. BNG Assessments and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans).
- Work closely with the Operational Team to develop habitat restoration proposals for NBS services and deliver practical land management, monitoring and audit surveys for NBS projects (e.g. Habitat Bank monitoring surveys).
- Provide technical support in reviewing and responding to BNG Assessments submitted with planning applications and offer wider NBS technical advice and support across the Trust and to other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in ecological botanical surveys (e.g. Phase 1 Habitat & UK Habitat Classification), BNG process (including use of the Defra metric), practical habitat delivery, familiarity with UK environmental and biodiversity policies/regulations, and knowledge of biodiversity, natural resource and ecosystem issues is essential.
- Experience in other NBS markets such as carbon would be welcomed.
