This role will help to deliver our ambition to achieve 30% of positively managed land and sea for nature across Yorkshire, in line with our blueprint for nature recovery – Bringing Yorkshire's Nature Back. You will play a central role in embedding evidence‑led decision‑making across the Trust, ensuring our work is targeted, effective, and responsive to a changing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of scientific evidence into conservation planning, strategy, and funding proposals.
- Work closely with practitioners, academics, and partner organisations.
- Oversee key research and monitoring initiatives, including ecological modelling and landscape‑scale data analysis.
- Develop data and insight capability: establish strong data governance, standards, and systems, while championing innovative technologies such as GIS, remote sensing, AI, drones, acoustics, and eDNA.
- Collaborate with Digital Transformation and IT teams to ensure data systems are secure, integrated, and aligned with organisational needs.
- Deliver high‑quality reports, visualisations, and insights that communicate impact effectively.
- Design research, analyse complex and spatial datasets, and produce clear, insightful outputs for varied audiences.
- Motivate teams, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and translate data into compelling, evidence‑based narratives.
- Demonstrate strong organisational and time‑management skills, a strategic mindset, and a deep commitment to nature conservation.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Experience with applied scientific data, robust statistical and modelling skills.
- Proficiency in GIS and analytical tools such as R or Python.
- Knowledge of UK conservation policy.
- Experience in data governance, quality, and reproducibility.
- Previous leadership experience and ability to motivate and manage teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
