Electrical Engineer in Yorkshire

Location: We are currently looking to recruit Electrical Engineers to work across the Yorkshire region within our Service Centre Asset Maintenance Department here at Yorkshire Water.

Work type: Permanent. You will be working 37 hours per week plus additional overtime as required.

As an Electrical Engineer, you will undertake repairs and maintenance of Yorkshire Water's electrical and mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing electrical equipment across Yorkshire Water's clean and wastewater sites, ensuring high standards of electrical engineering practice.

The ideal candidate will have strong practical electrical skills and hands-on experience, including the ability to assess and condemn faulty equipment on-site before returning it to the workshop for repair. You will support both the Service Centre Team and the Mitigation Department by carrying out pre-hire and post-hire assessments on the electrical side of our pump equipment, including control panels; completing electrical testing; inspecting pump wear components; assisting with the installation of new equipment; disconnecting electrical equipment; and providing broader electrical support to meet the operational needs of both the Mitigation Department and the overall Service Centre.

You will work closely with the Service Centre Coordinator to prioritise workloads and maintain effective relationships with operational teams, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners. A strong commitment to health and safety is essential, including hazard identification, mitigation, and reporting into the company hazard database to ensure risks are properly addressed. You will proactively identify and report follow-on work or areas for improvement, conduct your own risk assessments, and develop appropriate method statements as required to safely carry out maintenance activities.

The successful candidate will also have the ability to specify parts and equipment needed for procurement as part of the day-to-day role. You will also use a Toughbook/iPad to record work activity and update job status in line with workflow processes. Additional responsibilities include supporting the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members, as well as identifying opportunities to improve value and service within the Service Centre and the wider Maintenance Function.

What skills, experience & qualifications you will need:

• It is an essential requirement that you hold a recognised Electrical Craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds/ONC/BTEC/NVQ/HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Eng Tech.
• A full valid driving licence (with no more than six points) is an essential requirement of this role.
• Desirable qualifications include IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City and Guilds 2382-18), CompEx 1 4, and HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
• Experience and knowledge in safe isolation to the current IET regulations as a time-served industrial electrician.
• Fault finding on control circuits up to the PLC, IT literate (e.g., MS Office), ability to produce maintenance reports, experience of fault finding with industrial motors and starters, experience fault finding with industrial 3 phase systems, experience working with rotating equipment, and experience of fault finding on LV control circuits.
• Desirable experience includes experience of pneumatics, work within ATEX standards, experience of maintaining UPS systems, fault finding experience of soft start or variable speed drives, and fault finding experience of actuated valves.
• Previous experience gained as an industrial electrician within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors is ideal.
• A proven track record of maintaining and repairing 3 phase rotating machinery and associated control systems.
• A systematic approach to fault finding using industry best practice, with the ability to share and mentor others.

As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces. Any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
