We have an exciting opportunity for Water Quality Sampling Officer to join the Water Service Delivery team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Location: We’re recruiting across the region – base location will depend on successful candidate’s location

Working Type: This is a permanent weekend opportunity working 37 hours per week over 4 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday)

Water Service Delivery are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

Where you fit in:

You will ensure that Yorkshire Water complies with Water Quality sampling regulations and always maintains 100% compliance. This is done by carrying out Water Quality Sampling at our water treatment works, service reservoirs and at customer addresses across the region.

As our Water Quality Sampling Officer you will

  • Carry out water quality sampling in line with the requirements of the WQ Sampling procedures, QMS and ISO17025 accreditation.
  • Carry out random customer sampling as part of the regulatory sampling programme.
  • When on site, helping to resolve customers issues as and when needed and reporting those that cannot be resolved immediately.
  • Identify and report anything that may compromise compliance to the Regulatory Sampling Programme such as observations that could pose a threat to public health.
  • Liaise with other relevant personnel including Water Quality Scientists, Production Engineers and Field Technicians regarding any additional sampling required or to highlight site issues.
  • Report and mitigate Health & Safety and/or security issues.
  • Comply with the company lone working policy.
  • Operate and interrogate corporate systems, such as Advantex, RTS, Odyssey and Lab Systems as required.
  • Identify the leadership behaviours required in your role and for your team utilising the Responsible Leader Framework.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Develops and maintains effective internal relationships, has a good teamwork focus and customer relations.
  • Basic IT skills in Office and email packages with willingness to learn.
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service and resolution of customer contacts.
  • To understand potable water quality procedures.
  • Experience of working in a procedural and regulated environment.
  • Holds full valid driving licence and understands the challenges of occupational driving – note this role covers a lot of miles, so the ideal candidate should enjoy driving for a large part of their working day.
  • Is self-motivated and able to manage workload independently.
  • Ability to work at heights and within enclosed spaces.
  • Has a good sense of smell and taste for on-site testing.
  • To have a basic understanding of water treatment operations and distribution systems.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Previous experience gained within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors.
  • Proficient knowledge of corporate systems.
  • Previous experience of working in a quality or sampling role.
  • An understanding of Water Quality Regulations.
