Yorkshire Water are currently recruiting for a Supply Restoration Technician. This role is a key requirement for the management of Supply Restoration, to carry out the day to day activities that enable the effective operation of the Water Distribution network.
Within this role you will be required to respond quickly and effectively to network failure to minimise the impact upon key performance targets such as Water Supply Interruptions, Water Quality and Customer Service. The role also includes the delivery and deployment of Continuous Supplies Equipment, HGV/LGV Tankers and Traffic Management. Furthermore, value added proactive duties include the onsite checking of street works furniture and the operability of key & strategic valves to prevent further interruptions to supply.
Where you fit in:
As our Supply Restoration Technician you will
- Understand the key Health and Safety risks of operating the Water Network and take individual responsibility to ensure that work is carried out in such a way that is compliant with both legislative requirements, company standards and Life Saving Rules. This includes work relating to: Control of Works, NRASWA, Handling Dangerous Substances, Driving, Isolations, Work at Height, Tools and Equipment, Confined Spaces.
- Understand the principles of water networks and basic hydraulics
- Deployment of 800 Gallon tankers, 3000 Gallon Hook/Lift Tankers and 3500 Gallon Trailer Tankers (all subject to relevant driver LGV/HGV qualifications)
- Work alongside our Duty Operations Engineers in Central Control who will incident manage all activity
- Configure small bore and lay flat bagging solutions.
- Regularly maintain and check key equipment for continuous supplies deployment
- Proactively assist Network Technicians to operate the Distribution network to ensure a continuous flow of supplies to our customers. Understand risk in the context of Supply/Demand, WQ, Service and Supply Interruptions.
- Responds to reactive network failure providing assistance through Network operation and the deployment of Continuous Supplies
- Response to Above Ground Asset Failure, understanding the impact of that failure and responding appropriately to resolve.
- Understand Work Authorisation Risk Assessments for planned and emergency work, understanding the risks of intervention in relation to YWs key performance measures (Service. Supply Interruptions, WQ) and understand method statements and contingencies to ensure that all intervention activity is carried out optimally ensuring compliance with company policy and procedures.
- Work with Water Service Partnership (WSP) partners to support the efficient delivery of WSA activity promoted by Field teams and other YW departments, seeking to deliver solutions right first time and reduce the cost of failure.
- Understand basic plumbing with a requirement to connect temporary supplies to a customers pipework in accordance with Water Regulatory Advisory Service (WRAS) guidelines.
- Understand the key risks in relation to Water Quality, and how to ensure Water Quality is maintained through correct network operation. Understand the causal links between network operation and WQ and ensure that Network Operation is carried out to minimise failure
- Understand how the Grid operates and links to the wider Yorkshire Water supply network
- To understand how the Water Distribution Network impacts upon Pollution and understand how an asset failure can cause a pollution
- Work as part of the team to deliver excellent performance by understanding how their individual performance links to achieving the companys strategic objectives of Upper Quartile performance in Leakage, Supply Interruptions, Service.
