Company description: Water Utility Company based in Yorkshire region of England.

Location: Bradford, hybrid working (1-2 office days/week), leadership-level visibility, and impact on essential regional services. Office moving to Leeds (LS10) from Summer 2026.

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

The Opportunity: We are looking for a Strategic Asset Manager to play a leading role in our Strategic Asset Management function. This is a high-impact leadership role, responsible for helping to shape how asset management is governed, improved and embedded across the organisation. Working across Water, Wastewater and corporate functions, the role will help ensure that Yorkshire Water has a clear and effective approach to asset management that supports organisational objectives, enables robust decision-making and drives continual improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Shape and lead the organisations asset management governance framework, defining and maintaining clear ownership, accountability and oversight for key asset management activities.
  • Own and continually evolve the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), ensuring it remains aligned with organisational objectives, regulatory expectations and recognised good practice, including ISO 55000.
  • Provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge across water and wastewater asset management, promoting consistency, system integrity and shared standards.
  • Strengthen asset management capability and maturity across the business, identifying and coordinating improvement activity that enhances governance, process clarity and organisational readiness over time.
  • Champion insight led and risk-based decision making, driving the effective use of asset data, analytics, modelling and digital tools to improve visibility of risk, performance and trade-offs.
  • Lead and contribute to high quality regulatory submissions and external reporting, including PR29, ensuring asset management content is coherent, evidence based and aligned with the wider organisational narrative.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Significant experience in asset management within a utility, regulated industry or infrastructure organisation.
  • Strong applied understanding of ISO 55000 principles and experience of embedding them within organisational practice.
  • Experience of shaping strategic asset management frameworks, governance arrangements, long-term planning and improvement activity.
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, risk-based decision-making and the use of information to support strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to work across organisational boundaries and bring people together around a shared direction.
  • Ability to analyse complex issues and translate them into clear, practical and strategic recommendations.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Experience in the water sector or another highly regulated asset-intensive environment.
  • Experience of developing and embedding strategic planning artefacts such as a Strategic Asset Management Plan, policy framework or organisational improvement roadmap.
  • Experience with asset modelling, reliability engineering, or long-term strategic planning.
  • Professional membership of a relevant institution such as IAM, CIWEM, ICE, IMechE.
