Location: We have opportunities available across East Yorkshire, although you must be willing to travel across the Yorkshire region, when required within your role.
Work type: We have two permanent positions available. You will be working full time, 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday 08:00 - 16:00. Occasional out of hours/weekend working will be required in the role.
We have an exciting opportunity for two Distribution Maintenance Technicians to play a key role in ensuring a high quality water supply to our customers.

Where you fit in? This role sits within the Distribution Maintenance Team. The team is responsible for the delivery of a programme of planned interventions onto the water network at a District Metered Area (DMA) level and cyclical pipe level flushing interventions throughout Yorkshire. In addition to this, there are other proactive maintenance activities such as below ground, cyclical network asset inspections, reducing the potential risk of network contamination. The team's primary objective is to assist in the reduction of the number of Black, Brown, Orange (BBO) water discolouration - Water Quality contacts we receive as a business to meet the Water Quality Contacts performance commitment. The team play an important function in the delivery of network Legal Instrument undertakings from the Drinking Water Inspectorate by means of DMA flushing.
Some key role responsibilities include the following:
- Carry out planned flushing and sampling as per process and deploy data loggers.
- Execute and record all planned flushing activity through desired flow/duration of works required to achieve optimal performance and risk mitigation.
- Amend schematic/timetable when unforeseen issues arise i.e. inoperable assets on the network.
- Capture data to calculate depth of sediment material removed per flush.
- Undertake risk assessments for cyclical flushing activities.

You would benefit from:
- It would be advantageous if you had knowledge of the key mechanisms of discolouration on the water network and had water hygiene accreditation or Calm network training, however full training will be provided once in role.
- An understanding of the design and operation principles of potable water distribution network assets.
- An understanding of the operation principles of water hydraulics.
- Application of water hygiene principles at all times.
