We have an exciting opportunity for a Safety Specialist – Asset Delivery to join the Asset Management and Delivery team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Our Asset Management and Delivery teams are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
As our Safety Specialist you will act as a source of competent health and safety advice to all business unit team members and visibly drive the business unit health and safety climate and behaviour in line with identified cultural improvement requirements. You will also act as our conduit for health and safety information with internal and external stakeholders and ensure that Company Policy requirements are realised at Business Unit level.
Where you fit in
As our Safety Specialist you will;
- Undertake health and safety induction training for all new and existing employees.
- Own and manage business unit risk assessment levels of compliance in relation to task and generic assessments.
- To provide relevant information to occupational health department on health surveillance requirements in relation to new substance and equipment proposals.
- To act as a point of contact to confirm requirements for statutory inspections.
- To formulate and communicate relevant management procedures as required by company policy.
- Ensure relevant processes are implemented to gain compliance with regulatory and YWS policy requirements.
- To assist in the development of the business unit competence framework and monitor levels of compliance with competence framework requirements.
- To visibly support specified roles, not least those of team leaders.
- To support with the development and implementation of YW’s Serious Injury and Fatality Prevention Strategy.
- To ensure all sub-contractor services utilised within the Business unit have received appropriate level of evaluation prior to use of such services.
- To ensure that the reporting culture for near misses, hazards and incidents are in line with company expectations and that adequate closeouts are clearly documented within safeguard.
- To lead all Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations that are of a significant nature or as determined by the Contractor Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager.
- To be an active member and ultimately chair applicable SHE Forums, taking ownership for key initiatives.
- Driving continuous improvement via the development, implementation and maintenance of leading and lagging H&S indicators.
- To ensure business unit TIER 2 and 3 managers receives adequate coaching in relation to the application of company health and safety standards / procedures.
- Delivering and overseeing key H&S audits across multiple business areas.
- To coach and develop business unit team members in good health and safety best practice.
- To undertake any activity that gains additional health and safety assurance for the Business unit, as defined by the Contractor HSE Manager.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- NEBOSH Diploma or requisite level qualification and be a Chartered Member of IOSH.
- Demonstratable experience of the application of CDM from the perspectives of all duty holding roles.
- Application of Process Safety controls and The Management of Change within a high hazard industry.
- Driving License and be willing to travel throughout Yorkshire Region and other areas when required.
- Ability to coach, develop and influence others.
- IT Literacy with PowerBI, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Visio etc with the ability to formulate Presentations and have Presentation Skills.
- Innovative in terms of health and safety communication and be confident in one’s own ability and has the ability to demonstrate an authoritative approach when required.
- Experience of working with Trade Unions as one team as part of the continual improvement process.
You will also benefit from having:
- Experience of applying and coaching others in Process Safety and Change Management.
- Experience of Working with other Chartered professional from differing professions (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical etc) in order to gain best practice solutions for the benefit of the business.
- Experience of Maintenance Management strategies and reliability centred maintenance.
