Location: The role is a regional role working across Yorkshire.

Work type: This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 37 hours per week between a working window of 8am-6pm Monday to Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Reservoir Supervising Engineer to join the Water Service Delivery team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Water Service Delivery are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. This is a vital role within the company, to ensure safe operation of our Reservoirs across Yorkshire providing the essential water supply to over 5.2 million people living in the Yorkshire region.

Reservoirs are subject to statutory control under the Reservoirs Act 1975, intended to assure the safety of the public. Every reservoir must have an appointed 'Reservoir Supervising Engineer' to supervise the operation and maintenance of the reservoir and produce an annual statement summarising the performance of the reservoir. The supervising engineer is legally responsible for the safety of the reservoir at all times.

You are responsible for developing and maintaining the company's reputation as a responsible reservoir undertaker within the wider reservoir industry. You will work as part of a specialist team providing expert advice to the company. Using a risk management approach, the Reservoir Assets Team provide internal expertise to contribute to the delivery of improved assets and to ensure that the safety and integrity of the company's reservoirs and associated assets is protected.

Where you fit in: As our Reservoir Supervising Engineer you will:

  • Asset management activities ranging from planning through inspection, notification and prioritisation of planned maintenance and reactive work, protecting and conserving heritage and the environment to major works to ensure the structure and integrity of assets.
  • Developing and maintaining policies for integrated asset plans which include design, criticality ranking, operation, maintenance, asset investigation, investment policy and investment decisions. Also ensuring any new policy complies with Regulations, Business Plans and Regulatory Targets.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • The successful candidate will have strong technical/engineering/process expertise - including design, operational and maintenance understanding.
  • Educated to Degree level in Civil Engineering.
  • You will have a clear understanding of Engineering Specs, Design Guidance and understand site process safety.
  • You must be appointed by Defra as a member of the Supervising Engineers' panel.
  • You will have a strong Health & Safety ethos and understand and comply with the Company's Health & Safety policy and defined standards.
  • Investigating and reporting incidents, accidents and near misses.
  • You will have a clear understanding of the company's performance commitments and understand how asset groups contribute to this.
  • You will understand the Delivery End to End Process including use of the Project Management Plan, Risk Management, Quality Management Technique and DMF system understanding including cost models, service measure framework, investment criteria.
  • A confident communicator, you will be able to build up effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with a range of different people.
  • You will be able to influence and negotiate with others effectively and have previous experience of supporting and embedding change.
  • You will need to be well organised, methodical and be committed to ongoing continuous professional development.
  • Once fully trained, you will be appointed to the Panel of 'Reservoir Supervising Engineers' and will have full membership of relevant professional body at an appropriate level e.g. MICE, British Dam Society.
  • You will have excellent IT skills particularly with the Microsoft Office and Outlook applications.
  • As this is a regional role, you will be required to hold a valid UK driving licence, with no more than 6 points.

As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces; any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.
