Company description: Water Utility Company based in Yorkshire region of England.

We offer a competitive salary, depending on experience starting from £40,435, an annual incentive related bonus, and an attractive pension scheme (up to 12% company contribution). Location: Bradford BD6 / Hybrid Working (Two office days a week in Bradford and willingness to travel to Yorkshire Water sites).

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join the Smart Metering Programme within Water Service Delivery at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

As our Project Manager you will be:

  • Accountable for day-to-day delivery, management, co-ordination, and control of assigned projects, including development of the Project Definition Document (PDD), in some instances the Business Case, scope, goals, and deliverables, with support of business owners.
  • Accountable for accurate forecasting and reporting of key project information, updating any agreed project management reports and documentation (e.g., project status reports against time, cost, quality, benefits, and risks; financial expenditure summaries, risk registers; submitting change requests) and feeding into the programme level reports and boards.
  • Leading all resources assigned to the project, setting clear objectives, and managing performance on a project basis.
  • Adhering to the agreed business quality assurance standards and facilitating effective project audit reviews.
  • Ensuring that robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions.
  • Accountable for the accurate updating of Y.W. corporate systems where required.
  • Co-ordination of project activity and inputs being done by multiple people across assigned projects.
  • Support for the Business Owners and Business Change Managers in ensuring clear BAU activities (including embedding the resultant outputs, deliverables, benefits) are identified successfully at project definition, followed through, and embedded at project handover.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • This role requires a focussed and driven individual who revels in a challenging environment and has a passion for excellence and a can-do attitude.
  • You will have a proven track record of project management, planning and financial/budget management.
  • You will have experience of leadership and managing multi-disciplinary teams through the project life cycle, and experience of managing large workloads of multiple projects concurrently.
  • You will provide long-term sustainability to the project by integrating the project output to meet our performance commitments, regulatory outputs and ensuring project close out is completed in a timely manner.
  • Have a general commercial awareness, understanding of and ability to programme monitoring and expenditure forecasting skills to ensure robust financial and commercial management.
  • You will have a proven track record of budget management and financial performance.
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to present and communicate complex information to a wide range of audiences.
  • You must be able to articulate and have proven ability to engage with customers internally and externally, developing and maintaining strong positive business relationships in order to understand their needs and recognise opportunities.
  • You will have a wide level of experience in negotiations and conflict management in a project environment.
  • Willingness to work from various sites as the work demands as you will be required to travel to different YW locations so a full valid EU driving licence is essential.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Knowledge of Metering or Smart Metering.
  • A recognised qualification in a programme or project management course such as APM and appropriate level of membership of a recognised institution would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of the construction processes from civils works through to mechanical, electrical and ICA equipment and the logic and technical constraints around each of these areas.
  • Water/waste industry experience and previous experience working as a Project Manager in this sector or the broader utilities sector.
