Location: This role will initially be based in Normanton but we are moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in 2026.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pumping Solutions Technical Specialist to join the Asset Maintenance department at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. As a Pumping Solutions Technical Specialist, you'll play a key role in keeping our customers and operations running smoothly by designing, managing, and delivering temporary pumping and mitigation solutions across our network. From the initial concept through to installation, commissioning, and final sign-off, you'll provide technical expertise and project leadership to ensure solutions are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fit for purpose.
Working closely with operational, engineering, and delivery teams, you'll put the customer at the heart of everything you do, building strong relationships and delivering against agreed service standards and KPIs. You'll also drive innovation and continuous improvement, helping us make the best use of in-house resources, reduce operational risks, and improve outcomes for our customers and the environment.
Where you fit in: You'll be part of the Operational Support Team, providing specialist technical expertise for temporary pumping and mitigation activities across the business.
- Design temporary pumping solutions to support planned maintenance activities and mitigate the risk of pumping asset failures.
- Act as the Person Managing Work Activity (PMWA) for the installation and decommissioning of temporary pumping solutions.
- Deliver pumping solutions end-to-end, managing projects independently to meet operational requirements.
- Lead medium to large-scale and technically complex projects through the full lifecycle, from concept and design to delivery, commissioning, and handover.
- Procure, manage, and coordinate specialist subcontractors, including site surveys, quotations, RAMS reviews, installation methodologies, and site controls.
- Prepare project costings and quotations while maintaining commercial oversight of external spend and subcontractor performance.
- Provide technical expertise and identify opportunities to introduce new technologies, improve delivery methods, and enhance service performance.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the business, ensuring customers and operational teams remain informed and engaged throughout project delivery.
- Work closely with Procurement, Finance, Engineering, and external suppliers to ensure efficient project delivery and robust supplier performance.
- Contribute to key business outcomes including reducing external spend, minimising asset downtime, preventing pollution events, and improving stakeholder satisfaction.
- Champion SHEQ standards and promote a culture of safety, quality, and compliance across staff, subcontractors, and customers.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical discipline.
- Proven experience within the pump hire sector and/or water industry.
- Practical understanding of fluid dynamics, pumping technologies, and associated civil and electrical principles.
- Strong knowledge of temporary and permanent pumping systems, with the ability to diagnose issues and develop effective technical solutions.
- Demonstrable project management experience, including planning, coordinating, and delivering multiple concurrent projects.
- Working knowledge of CDM 2015 and the application of regulatory requirements to temporary works and site delivery.
- Experience managing subcontractors and external suppliers in a technical or operational environment.
- Strong commercial awareness, including preparing quotations, project cost control, and supplier management.
- Competent user of Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Visio, and MS Project.
- Full UK driving licence (No more than six points).
