Location: West Yorkshire - This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future. Hybrid Working (1-2 days in the office a week – Bradford/Leeds).

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Scientist to join the IT team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

As our Data Scientist you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of cutting‑edge data science solutions, from initial scoping through to deployment (Machine Learning, AI, Open Data).
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to embed solutions into business processes and maximise real-world impact.
  • Generate data‑driven insights to deepen understanding of performance, assets, customers and risk.
  • Act as a trusted subject matter expert, influencing stakeholders up to management level and championing data & analytics across the business.
  • Support and inspire others by promoting data capability and delivering training opportunities at all levels.
  • Get involved in a variety of exciting, high‑impact projects, offering the chance to continuously grow and diversify your data science skillset.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Degree-qualified in a numerically focused STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).
  • Proven experience delivering data science solutions in a commercial or business setting.
  • Strong expertise in one or more core programming languages (Python, SQL, R).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
  • Confident taking the lead in cross‑functional projects and collaborative working groups.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Familiarity with collaborative coding practices and peer review.
  • Understanding of modern development frameworks and methodologies (Agile, SAFe, DevOps).
  • Knowledge of data engineering principles and best practices.
  • Experience within a relevant industry or sector.
  • Full UK driving licence.
