Company description: Water Utility Company based in Yorkshire region of England.

We offer a competitive salary (Band 5a), £32,480 to £40,571 depending on experience. Annual incentive related bonus (£1000 maximum bonus opportunity for the performance year). Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we are moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (1 to 2 office days a week).

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

We have opportunities available in Indirect Categories - Information Technology & Operational Technology (IT&OT) and Professional Services to join a growing and transforming Commercial function as a Contract Technician in the Commercial Operations team at Yorkshire Water. The Commercial - Operations are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. The Contract Technician will support the delivery of health and safety, performance commitments, service, value, and compliance through the effective and efficient contract management. This includes the administration of frameworks and contracts with a focus on specification clauses; variations; risks, quality of workmanship and the overall commercial and service interests needs of the customers, stakeholders, and the business.

Areas of interests sought: there are multiple roles available across different indirect categories, including: Professional Services, Information Technology & Operational Technology (IT&OT).

As our Contract Technician you will:

  • Work as part of the team to deliver excellent performance by understanding how your individual performance links into achieving the team's wider objectives.
  • Identify and progress opportunities for cost reductions and/or increase the efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure effective administration and maintenance of contract records and documentation such as insurance.
  • Provide commercial data/information and contribute to the preparation of financial reports.
  • Provide technical support to team members and wider YW/Partner teams including providing performance data.
  • Work with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to maintain professional, effective relationships.
  • Ensure excellent standards and performance in health and safety.
  • Demonstrate financial awareness when making day to day business decisions.
  • Support commercial processes for mini tenders under the frameworks as required.
  • Support service escalation to ensure a consistently high level of service during extreme weather conditions, major asset failure and elevated customer contacts.
  • Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy.
  • Provide support to other teams in the Contract Management functions.
  • Coordinate regular and ad-hoc meetings.
  • Support audit and assurance activity.
  • Demonstrate relentless drive, energy, and determination to achieve team objectives.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Experience of understanding where your role fits within a business plan and then developing ways to deliver the outputs.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with your team and other stakeholders.
  • Experience of supporting change.
  • Clearly demonstrate the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours.
  • Experience of basic financial management including budget tracking.
  • Good level communication skills ability to communicate and engage people at all levels.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Experience of delivering against challenging business targets.
  • Previous experience in a commercially orientated and/or regulated environment.
  • Previous experience gained within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors including a knowledge of operational assets and operations.
  • Proven track record in this type of role.
  • Awareness of risk management processes.
  • Awareness of contract management.
  • Awareness of programme and project management.

We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1-2 days in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours. Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it’s important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life.
