Location: Western House (Bradford) or Smithy Wood (Sheffield), hybrid working with YW site visits, covering the South Yorkshire region. Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Capital Operations Liaison Officer to join the Asset Delivery Team (Storm Overflow Alliance) at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. The Asset Delivery team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. Yorkshire Water is investing £1.3 billion in one of the most ambitious environmental programmes in the UK tackling the challenge of storm overflows through our AMP8 investment cycle.

The Capital Operations Liaison Officer will play a key role in these exciting AMP8 capital investment plans that will coordinate with Yorkshire Water's Operational and Maintenance colleagues on operational matters that will support with design development and smooth asset integration. These are critical roles for our AMP8 Storm Overflow Programme to ensure alignment across Yorkshire Water's operational business. This is an internal Yorkshire Water stakeholder-heavy role where your ability to influence, coordinate, and lead across boundaries is critical. With programmes ranging from £5 million to £100 million+, you'll be working at a scale that's both challenging and career-defining.

Where you fit in: As our Capital Operations Liaison Officer you will work with:

  • Project Support & Data Management: Collect, interpret, and validate data across project phases (design, commissioning, etc.) from various sources (SPP, YW systems, archives). Create and present reports to project teams. Support permit writing, handovers, and SAA sign-offs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Consult with operational, technical, and contract teams. Liaise across Yorkshire Storm Alliance and NESOP for coordination and collaboration.
  • Design & Engineering Input: Provide design input for operational and maintenance considerations. Attend key lifecycle meetings (ALM, HAZOP, Value Engineering, Technical Challenge, Core Engineering Review). Identify opportunities for value engineering and efficiencies.
  • Construction & Commissioning: Attend construction phase meetings (CPT, commissioning, risk, escalation). Support shutdowns and commissioning activities. Guide handovers and ensure smooth transition between teams.
  • Process & Operational Support: Assist Project Manager and Sponsor throughout project lifecycle. Lead Process Impact Plans (PIPs) development and review. Respond to technical queries from internal/external departments.
  • Training & Coaching: Coach new starters on wastewater processes (e.g., site tours). Support project training and handover planning with Contract Partners and YW stakeholders.
  • Asset & Programme Readiness: Assess asset health and plan mitigations. Contribute to programme readiness (staffing, CAPEX/OPEX, sludge logistics, chemical usage).
  • Health & Safety: Audit sites, report hazards, and recommend solutions.
  • Communication & Coordination: Raise awareness of timelines and impacts across Yorkshire Storm Alliance, NESOP, and Operations to prevent delays.

What skills & qualifications you will need: Technical expertise in process operation with a minimum of 10 years experience in operation of CSO screens and networks. Experience of working with a team to deliver significant projects in short timeframes. Experience of supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours. Understanding of business targets and priorities and how the relevant asset groups contribute to this. Experience of the development of operations and maintenance plans, asset management plans, statistical process control and reliability plans, including use of tools such as FMECA and applied RCM, is desirable. Experience of understanding where the role fits within a business plan and then developing ways to deliver the outputs. Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships. Experience of supporting and embedding change, able to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours. Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours. Previous experience gained within the wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors.

You will also benefit from having: Experience of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets. Previous experience in a commercially orientated and/or regulated environment.

We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1 day in the office/on site per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
