Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we are moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working typically 1 office day a week plus site visits.

Work type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Solutions Development Engineer (Renewables) to join the Energy Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

What we do: We ensure that over 5.4 million people living in the region can rely on our services, providing clean and safe drinking water and managing wastewater. We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to manage Yorkshire's water sustainably. The Energy team plays a key role in meeting the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Energy Projects team is accountable for delivering energy projects to achieve 40% self-generation by 2030 while supporting wider business targets around EV deployment, power resilience, and heat recovery/use.

As our Solutions Development Engineer (Renewables) you will:

  • Provide electrical engineering expertise to support the development and delivery of renewable energy and other energy-related projects.
  • Act as the primary liaison between project delivery teams and Group Engineering functions.
  • Develop comprehensive engineering work packages and delivery scopes for handover to project delivery teams.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to optimise construction methodologies, improve efficiency, and reduce project costs.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage new and amended grid connection applications.
  • Support Project Managers in monitoring EPC contractor performance.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits as required.
  • Produce detailed site visit and audit reports.
  • Represent the engineering team in strategic initiatives.
  • Attend and support commissioning, testing, and energisation activities.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • 5 years proven experience delivering energy-related projects, ideally within a regulated environment.
  • Qualified to HNC, HND, Degree level, or equivalent in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Completed, or able to work towards, High Voltage (HV) Authorised Person status.
  • A strong understanding of construction methodologies and industry best practices.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical infrastructure and power systems.
  • A good understanding of the UK water industry and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of energy-related projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation.
  • The ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
