Work type: Permanent. Our assets are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Once fully trained you will also take part in an operational out of hours rota which provides emergency cover for issues that arise outside of the contractual working window; weekend working will be expected as part of the role with compensatory rest days applied to accommodate this.

What we do: Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.

Where you fit in: As our Product & Process Technician you will be responsible for safely undertaking operational and maintenance activities associated with the day-to-day running of wastewater treatment works. You will be responsible for conducting daily routine manual and technical work tasks on the site, including routine operations, instrument calibration and basic maintenance checks to prevent failure and to manage and prioritise workload according to available resources.

The Product & Process Technician will take ownership of the site and maintain a safe working environment by always implementing and adhering to Health and Safety procedures. This will include the management of contractors via Control of Work, inducting visitors onto sites and mitigating and resolving hazards as they arise.

You will use process information, both manual and IT based, to proactively optimise the site processes and improve process efficiency in terms of cost of treatment and energy generation. Commercially, you will drive for the optimisation of all processes to minimise operational costs and meet our performance targets.

You will have previous knowledge/experience of carrying out technical and manual tasks, preferably in an operational, process-based industry. This is a key operational role where you will be carrying out manual handling duties, working at heights and dealing with raw sewage.

As part of this role, you will be required to work within confined spaces; any successful candidate must pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure your full safety when working in hazardous environments.

You require a full valid driving licence with no more than 6 points.

Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it's important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life. We know that juggling childcare responsibilities or getting that ideal work/life balance isn't always easy!

If you've got experience of carrying out technical and manual tasks, preferably in an operational, process-based industry and want to help us deliver great service for our customers whilst looking after the environment, then be sure to apply today to find out what a career with Yorkshire Water can offer you.

Depending on the role, you may also be required to go through the security vetting process for either a Counter Terrorist Check or Security Check clearance. All our roles are subject to a medical questionnaire, and further medicals when required.
