We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Sampling Officer to join Water Service Delivery at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Where you fit in:

As our Environmental Sampling Officer you will collect samples from our Wastewater Treatment Works across the region and perform on-site field tests, ensuring that Yorkshire Water complies with Operator Self-Monitoring (OSM), Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) sampling regulations and maintains 100% compliance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out sample machine calibrations and sample point audits as required
  • Ensure that all sampling is conducted on wastewater treatment works as dictated by the regulatory sampling programme. This involves collecting a range of different waste water quality samples at the crude and final effluent stages for dispatch and analysis at a central lab.
  • Carry out other sampling as required by the role. This includes AMP (Asset Management Plan) investigation sampling programme, bathing waters, river sampling and tankered trade waste.
  • To carry out on-site tests including pH, turbidity, ammonia, total chlorine,
  • Using corporate systems and record sheets to record activities and maintain accurate sample records.
  • To comply with all the requirements of the OSM and UWWTD QMS (Quality Management System) Documents and ISO17025 accreditation.
  • To ensure the confidentiality of the Compliance Sampling Programmes (OSM & UWWTD)
  • To operate and interrogate corporate systems, such as Advantex, RTS (Regional Telemetry System), Odyssey, Lotus Notes and Lab Systems as required.
  • Report and mitigate Health & Safety and/or security issues.
  • Comply with the company lone working policy.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Develops and maintains effective internal relationships, has a good teamwork focus and customer relations.
  • Basic IT skills in Office and email packages with willingness to learn.
  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service and resolution of customer contacts.
  • To understand waste water quality regulation.
  • Experience of working in a procedural and regulated environment.
  • Holds full valid driving licence and understands the challenges of occupational driving - this role covers a lot of miles, so the ideal candidate should enjoy driving for a large part of their working day
  • Is self-motivated and able to manage workload independently.
  • Ability to work at heights and within enclosed spaces.
  • To have a basic understanding of waste water treatment operations and distribution systems.
  • Clearly demonstrates the Yorkshire Water company values and behaviours
  • Experience of understanding where your role fits within a business plan and then developing ways to deliver the outputs.
  • Is flexible in their approach to work and the possibility of weekend working

You will also benefit from having:

  • Previous experience in a commercially orientated and/or regulated environment.
  • Previous experience gained within the water or waste water sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors.
  • Proficient knowledge of YW corporate systems.
  • Regulatory Awareness
  • Previous experience in a quality or sampling role.
