Location: Bradford/Hybrid working – typically 2 days in the office per week

This is a permanent role, working full time- 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Lead to join the Developer Services Commercial and Assurance Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The Developer Services Commercial Team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

This role will support the delivery of commercial activities in Developer Services related to annual customer charges, through charge set up and maintenance, and financial recoveries generated from new development activities. The role will provide scrutiny to the monthly application for payment to our contract partner for the work they deliver to customers on our behalf. The role will monitor and assess ongoing compliance with the commercial contract and customer charges – to deliver value and improvements.

This role will include management of two direct line reports with the responsibility to deliver monthly timetabled assurance for the commercially contracted application for payment and to attend commercial meetings to summarise and resolve queries as a team. The role will present summary information as monthly outputs to senior management. The role may include interaction with assurance providers, and IT, to deliver and embed our new annual charges on an annual basis.

Where you fit in:

As our Commercial Lead you will:-

. Provide commercial support to negotiate and deliver the contracted Schedule of Rates that underpins Developer Services annual charges. Work with the Yorkshire Water Commercial Team and contract partner to deliver annual requirements and seek advice from Finance, Legal and Regulation departments where required to deliver customer charges.
. Provide annual support to deliver customer application and administrative charges for water and waste activities that recover income to deliver our services on a regulatory compliant and cost reflective basis.
. Support the delivery of the annual charges in a customer facing quoting tool to create accurate quotes for customers and by working with IT colleagues to embed the charges each financial year.
. Carry out monthly commercial application for payment checks alongside two direct line reports to provide challenge and assurance that costs claimed from our contract partner are in line with work done under the contract terms.
. Identify risks and commercial control deficiencies around the schedule of rates and contractor claims and the application for payment process.
. Deliver commercial and charge related analysis each month to communicate and monitor performance and support the charge strategy decision making processes. Through Performance Excellence, embed a continuous improvement culture, aligned to the Customer Experience Strategy through the delivery of charge and commercial activities.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

. An understanding of Developer Services water and waste activities carried out for different customer groups which are paid through regulatory charges.
. Experience of a work setting which uses a schedule of commercial rates to deliver construction activities which are delivered to customers under a contract with defined terms and conditions
. The ability to communicate and negotiate effectively on commercial matters with stakeholders across the organisation (internal and external stakeholders)
. An ability to describe and summarise commercial decisions verbally and numerically including detailed and accurate analysis and models
. The ability to identify, deliver and embed change as part of a team, to influence and drive positive culture and behaviours that will drive performance improvements in the delivery of commercial activities
. Knowledge of basic assurance and compliance principles and an agile mindset to deliver clear and logical solutions to commercial related questions
. MS Excel and analytical skills to identifying irregularities, trends, and patterns, and to seek the best outcomes for customers and Yorkshire Water

You will also benefit from having:

Background or related experience in Developer Services or a similar commercial environment
Financial knowledge to build commercial models that use principles like CPIH
Experience of monthly financial reporting
Understanding of annual financial business planning and price reviews
Relevant Contract Management qualification (e.g. NEC)
