Company description: Water Utility Company based in Yorkshire region of England.

Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we are moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you'll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (2 office days a week Bradford/Leeds).

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction & Technical Manager to join the Energy Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Join Yorkshire Water's Non-Regulated Energy Projects team and play a key role in delivering the infrastructure that will power a more sustainable future. Working across renewable energy, EV charging and power resilience programmes, you'll provide technical and construction leadership from concept through to commissioning. Where you fit in: As our Construction & Technical Manager you will:

  • Lead the safe and successful delivery of Yorkshire Waters renewable energy, EV charging and power resilience programmes, helping drive down carbon emissions and energy costs for customers.
  • Be the go-to technical expert, shaping projects from early concept and design through to commissioning and energisation across a diverse portfolio of sites.
  • Champion world-class health, safety and compliance standards, ensuring projects are delivered safely, sustainably and to the highest quality.
  • Work at the forefront of the energy transition, supporting the deployment of innovative renewable technologies and resilient energy solutions.
  • Partner with Project Managers, engineers, operations teams and contractors to overcome challenges and keep critical projects on track.
  • Conduct site visits and audits, identifying opportunities to enhance performance, improve standards and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Influence the design and construction of new assets, ensuring buildability, maintainability and operational excellence are embedded from day one.
  • Represent the Energy Team across engineering, asset delivery and strategic forums, helping shape the future of sustainable infrastructure.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives, unlocking efficiencies, reducing costs and maximising project benefits.
  • Play a key role in delivering assets that strengthen operational resilience while supporting Yorkshire Waters net zero ambitions.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery with minimal operational disruption.
  • Lead commissioning and handover activities, ensuring assets are ready to perform from day one.
  • Manage specialist contractors and develop internal engineering capability through line management and technical leadership.
  • Identify and implement best practice across construction, engineering and compliance activities, raising standards across the programme.
  • Help deliver projects that make a tangible difference to Yorkshire Waters environmental performance, operational efficiency and customer outcomes.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Demonstrable experience (5+ years) delivering renewable energy, electrical infrastructure or energy-related projects, ideally within a regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials and best practice associated with energy infrastructure projects.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical infrastructure, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Understanding of UK water industry standards and regulations would be advantageous.
  • Experience supporting the safe and successful delivery of projects through EPCs, contractors or delivery partners.
  • Strong awareness of health, safety and environmental legislation, including permit systems, POWRA, RAMS and control of works processes.
  • Ability to review and interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications and contract documentation.
  • Skilled in identifying project risks, driving solutions and delivering continuous improvement.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across technical, operational and project teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Relevant qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
