You’ll be out and about most days, travelling between sites.

Work type: These are permanent roles, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, anytime between 06:00 and 22:00. You’ll be part of a planned rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays as normal operational hours. Once you’re fully trained and confident working on your own, you’ll also join our standby rota, which may mean callouts overnight or at weekends.

What we do: Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. It’s a hands-on job where no two days are quite the same. You’ll spend a lot of your time working outdoors, come rain or shine, getting involved in practical tasks and keeping our sites in good working order.

Your duties will include tasks such as:

  • Responding to RTS alarms and pollution incidents
  • Gathering evidence at suspected pollution incidents
  • Lifting, checking, and unblocking pumps
  • Taking samples, examining the results, and trouble-shooting any issues impacting sample results
  • Raising follow-on work for internal support services

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • A practical, hands-on mindset and a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers.
  • A good level of resilience; it’s not always easy work, but it’s rewarding.
  • The ability to work both on your own and as part of a team.
  • Good time management to plan your day and manage your workload.
  • Confidence to speak up if something doesn’t look safe.
  • A steady, problem-solving approach and a positive attitude.

You’ll also need:

  • Basic IT skills, as you’ll be recording information on a Toughbook
  • A full UK driving licence (with no more than 6 points), as you’ll be travelling between sites

You will also benefit from having:

  • Previous knowledge or experience of wastewater operations (though not essential; we’ll teach you what you need to know).
