Location: Technical Optimiser supporting sewage pumping works across the Leeds / York area. Full driving licence (no more than 6 points) essential.
Work type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday â Friday. Includes standby rota after full training.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Optimiser to join the Wastewater team at Yorkshire Water and help deliver the best service to our customers.
What we do: We provide essential water and wastewater services across Yorkshire, protecting the environment, planning for the future, and delivering clean drinking water and effective wastewater treatment around the clock. Our Wastewater team plays a key role in meeting customer and regulatory expectations, driving operational excellence across treatment works, pumping stations and associated assets.
Where you fit in:
- Demonstrate health and safety behaviour that complies with company policy and fosters a positive safety culture.
- Plan, organise, and manage complex operational activities to deliver reactive and proactive workloads.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operational staff, driving efficiency and productivity.
- Act as a key liaison between operations and internal departments (E&MS, Asset Management, Asset Integrity).
- Investigate asset performance shortfalls using the RCA approach.
- Resolve highâpriority, complex, and emergency problems with external resources as needed.
- Deliver performance commitments (pollution incidents, TWC compliance, bathing water quality, energy consumption, sludge quality), helping Yorkshire Water achieve upperâquartile standing.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality assurance requirements through effective planning and optimisation.
- Support asset failure investigations and proactive monitoring using SCADA and RTS.
- Make financial decisions with costâeffectiveness and mitigation in mind.
- Participate in capital schemes, commissioning new assets, and build internal and external alliances.
- Promote accurate risk management and visibility of asset risks in the corporate system.
- Coach Pumping Operators and Maintenance Technicians onsite to maximise asset potential.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
- Inâdepth technical knowledge of wastewater process and pumping assets.
- Experience delivering continual improvement in a process/production environment.
- Extensive strategy development, deployment, and delivery experience.
- Strong data interpretation skills, especially using corporate YW systems and Excel.
- Proactive ownership of issues, problemâsolving, and collaboration across the operational department.
- Commitment to safe working practices per Yorkshire Water procedures.
- Experience embedding change within an operational team.
- Achievement of challenging business targets and realising KPIs.
- Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points).
