Location

Mechanical Fitters across the Yorkshire region in our Service Centre within the Asset Maintenance Business Unit area at Yorkshire Water.

Work Type

Permanent, 37 hours per week plus additional overtime as required.

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Fitter you will repair and maintain mechanical assets across wastewater treatment facilities and clean water pumping sites, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance activities. Your role includes:

  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs, servicing, strip‑downs, rebuilds and testing of diesel and industrial pumps
  • Installing pumps, pipework and associated equipment on customer sites
  • Assessing equipment for on‑site repair or return to workshop
  • Supporting pre‑ and post‑hire checks and temporary plant installations
  • Prioritising workloads alongside the Service Centre Coordinator
  • Adhering to health and safety standards, completing risk assessments and using digital tools to track work
  • Supporting team development, identifying improvements, specifying parts and assisting with installation and commissioning of new equipment

Qualifications

  • Recognised Level 3 Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship and a qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC, BTEC, NVQ, HNC, HND, or an equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Full valid driving licence (with no more than six points) to visit sites across the Yorkshire Region
  • Experience within the water and wastewater industry, including diesel pump systems and proven capability in servicing, maintenance and repair

Desirable Qualifications

  • HNC in a Mechanical discipline
  • CompEx 11

Mandatory Requirements

  • Safe isolation to the current IET regulations
  • Time served industrial mechanical fitter
  • Working with rotating equipment
  • Ability to produce maintenance reports
  • Fault finding on mechanical systems

Desirable Knowledge and Experience

  • Maintaining and repairing centrifugal, positive displacement, RAM, progressive cavity, diaphragm, peristaltic pumps, with gearboxes, compressors, blowers, steam systems, chemical plant, hot work/fabrication, welding, lifting equipment and slinging, pneumatics and hydraulics
