Location: West Yorkshire – The role will initially be based in Bradford, with the office moving to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026. Work will be hybrid with a minimum of one day in office a week (Bradford/Leeds) and an expectation to visit sites across the Yorkshire region. A full valid driving licence is essential.

Work type: 18 month fixed-term contract, 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

The Estates team is a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. As a Land Acquisition Surveyor you will be an integral part of the Estates Team in the Land and Property department at Yorkshire Water. Reporting directly to the Lead Land Acquisition Surveyor, you will be at the forefront of assisting and supporting Yorkshire Water’s capital programme.

Your workload will be incredibly varied, from supporting the Lead Surveyor on relating strategies and national objectives to acquiring land, access and rights to help capital projects be delivered to budget and time. In addition, alongside the Lead Acquisition Surveyor you will also be assisting and supporting colleagues across the business by providing technical advice on various land related matters including land compensation claims, CPO’s and DCO’s.

Where you fit in: As our Land Acquisition Surveyor, you will:

  • Provide professional and technical advice to the business to support the delivery of the Yorkshire Water capital programme.
  • Liaise with project managers, construction partners and third‑party landowners/land agents to acquire land, access and rights required to support delivery of capital projects or operational needs.
  • Provide professional advice on and negotiate land compensation claims.
  • Provide support to the Estate Management team on land acquisition, access and rights matters impacting Yorkshire Water’s own land holdings.
  • Support the Lead Surveyor in assessing any CPOs and DCOs received.
  • Work with the Land & Property team to seek and progress commercial and efficiency opportunities arising from the estate.
  • Drive excellent standards, behaviours and performance in Health & Safety, and conduct at work ensuring compliance with Yorkshire Water safety policy.
  • Support the business approach to delivering excellent customer experience.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Hold an MRICS accredited degree and be MRICS/Assoc RICS or CAAV qualified.
  • Have extensive knowledge and experience of legal and regulatory requirements relating to land and property ownership, acquisition, understanding of property legislation and processes connected to land access and rights.
  • Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills and a proven track record in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with strong team working skills.
  • Manage workload in an organised and timely manner, whilst ensuring attention to detail remains.
  • Work autonomously whilst being a team player achieving wider corporate outcomes and targets.
  • Excellent and demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety procedures and regulations.
  • Be self‑motivated, with proven ability to work under pressure, excellent customer service, prioritisation and time management skills enabling you to deliver results against challenging targets flexibly.
