Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working.

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Emergency Preparedness & Resilience Specialist to join the Central Control department at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity. New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry.

Central Control are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. The Emergency Preparedness and Resilience Specialist will lead on all things emergency planning and business continuity, making sure we meet key legislation like the Civil Contingencies Act and Security & Emergency measures direction (SEMD). You’ll keep plans up to date, tested, and fit for purpose, while driving improvements across resilience and incident management. You’ll also represent us across Local Resilience Forums and wider partners, ensuring we play our part when it matters most. It’s a fast-paced role, so you’ll need to stay calm under pressure and be comfortable working with stakeholders up to board level.

Where you fit in: As our Emergency Preparedness & Resilience Specialist you will:

  • Lead on emergency plans—writing, reviewing, and testing them.
  • Work with departments across the business to work with and test their business continuity plans.
  • Act as subject expert on Civil Contingency Act (CCA) and SEMD compliance.
  • Advise and support colleagues, including senior leaders.
  • Represent Yorkshire Water at Local Resilience Forum (LRF) and multi‑agency forums.
  • Support incident response, communications, and debriefs.
  • Track actions and drive improvements from lessons learnt.
  • Manage key contracts, risks, and investment needs.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners.

What skills, experience & qualifications you will need:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in emergency planning or similar.
  • Experience and testing of business continuity plans.
  • Knowledge of UK resilience frameworks (CCA/SEMD).
  • Strong communication, influencing, and report‑writing skills.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders.
  • Project management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Organised, adaptable, and a strong team player.
  • Full UK driving licence (No more than six points).

You will also benefit from having:

  • Experience in utilities or regulated environments.
  • A qualification in business continuity.
  • Knowledge of contract management and systems like SAP.
  • PRINCE2 or similar qualification.
  • Awareness of wider legislation (e.g. COMAH, Reservoir Act).
