We have an exciting opportunity for a Solution Development Engineer - ICA to join us in the Asset Management team and be a part of helping us give the very best service to our customers.

The Asset Management team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. The Engineering Team provide technical expertise in the business to ensure compliance with regulation, legislation and to ensure efficiency in the full asset management lifecycle. As an ICA expert you will become part of the Engineering governance to ensure sustainability in a rapidly changing world of technology to meet our environmental and sustainability challenges.

Where you fit in: As our Solution Development Engineer ICA you will:

  • Provide technical expertise and knowledge within Control & Automation (C&I) discipline to lead or support on proactive and planned technical, engineering and investigations to develop detailed solutions.
  • Be responsible for delivering and developing robust engineering work packages work scopes which will then be delivered or transferred to a delivery team.
  • Provide Engineering Standards support to the ICA Principal Engineer, together with support to the capital teams for integration of new assets.
  • Attend YW Functional Work Group as a Subject Matter Expert in own specialist discipline/skills for developing maintenance plans, Engineering Specifications etc, particularly around automation and commissioning.
  • Lead Technical Governance Working Groups in control & automation application to support the capital delivery programme.
  • Provide engineering standards support to the ICA Principal Engineers in way of the development of the Engineering Specifications, WIMES and design guidance.
  • Provide on-site process and operational expertise in relation to the interrogation of control and process automation systems, instrumentation, PLC, and associated networks to determine the functional performance of safety systems/layers of protection etc.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to support the transfer of specialist knowledge and succession planning within Yorkshire Water.
  • Provide Technical Leadership with the creation and management of supplier Frameworks for Instrument, Control and Automation.

What skills & qualifications you'll need:

  • You will hold an HNC/HND Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic /Control & Instrumentation Engineering.
  • You will have previous experience in developing and writing engineering standards and specifications.
  • You will have previous experience of developing engineering solutions and incorporating these into a work package/specification for delivery.
  • Experience of integrated PLC systems, deterministic communication networks and Systems Integration.
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts/strategies into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience and be able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business.
  • You will have previous data management experience and you will have strong analytical skills, be proficient in IT as you will be using a range of Company IT systems, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel and Office 365.
  • You will have the ability to engage with customers internally and externally, developing and maintaining strong positive business relationships to understand their needs and recognise opportunities.
  • You will have strong coaching/mentoring skills and be able to train and communicate new initiatives and obtain "buy in" from stakeholders at all levels.
  • You will be required to carry out on-site audits for assurance of compliance and performance, so you must have a full valid driving license and flexibility to travel across the Yorkshire region (you will have no more than 6 points on your licence).

You will also benefit from having:

  • A Degree in Engineering or equivalent, and preferably membership (or working towards membership) of a recognised Engineering Institution at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Plant optimisation and reliability engineering experience.
  • Experience of control systems used in automation within the process industry.
  • Asset management experience within a large-scale engineering or process related industry.
  • Experience of Safety Critical Systems, high integrity Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and IEC61511 Functional Safety In The Process Industry.
