About the role

Yorkshire Water is looking for a Network Controller to join our Customer Field Services department. This is a mobile consumer service role covering South Yorkshire based at our Blackburn Meadows site. The role will help provide the best service to customers.

Working type

Permanent. 37 hours per week, rotational patterns. Required to participate in out of hours standby. Flexibility outside core hours is essential.

We provide essential water and wastewater services to people in Yorkshire, protecting the environment and ensuring clean water. We also focus on customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance.

Where you fit!

Field‑based role with some office work. Works with management to improve customer service and sewer system performance. Ensures first‑time fix solutions, investigates escalated issues, supports operation teams, uses IT systems, adheres to health and safety, and promotes cost‑effective resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure first‑time fix for customers and the environment while raising quality follow‑on work as per standards and specifications.
  • Take ownership of investigations linking to ODI performance, resolving or progressing escalated sewer system issues in a timely manner.
  • Support asset plans for network maintenance to eliminate escapes.
  • Work closely with Yorkshire Water teams and contracted partners on site to resolve and manage escalated operational issues on the sewer network.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of escalated issues to prevent repeat customer contacts and support operational teams with asset problem investigations.
  • Utilise IT systems to collate information and relay feedback and progress rechargeable works.
  • Ensure Health and Safety working practices and procedures are always complied with.
  • Demonstrate financial awareness and provide technical support to ensure first‑time resolution and promote the most cost‑effective solution.

Skills, experience and training

  • Previous experience in a customer‑facing related role with face‑to‑face communication is an essential requirement.
  • Previous wastewater experience and a good knowledge of drainage and sewer networks.
  • Strong health & safety background and proficiency in IT systems and technical equipment.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills to diagnose root causes and capture evidence and feedback.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential with the ability to influence outcomes and deliver against business targets.
  • Full valid driving licence (with no more than six points).
  • Flexible attitude, ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships, and to demonstrate Yorkshire Water values.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and pass strict medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing and spirometry tests).
  • Support for flexible working patterns and job‑share options where possible to balance work and life.
