We have an exciting opportunity for an Asset Planning Sponsor to join the Integrated Catchment Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

What we do!

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Asset Management (Waste) are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

Where you fit in!

As our Asset Planning Sponsor within the Integrated Catchment Management team, you will lead the delivery of programmes that investigate, diagnose, and develop solutions for catchment and compliance risks. You’ll be instrumental in progressing our catchment asset plans, ensuring they meet regulatory and compliance requirements while identifying the most cost-effective TOTEX (total expenditure) solutions.

Working alongside our Senior Asset Planning Sponsors, a key part of your role will be to define investment decisions and clearly articulate the anticipated Measures of Success. This will help determine whether interventions require immediate delivery or should inform future asset planning. You’ll collaborate closely with the wider Asset Planning teams across Infra and Non-Infra, as well as our delivery partners, to ensure alignment, manage investigations, and review potential investment overlaps.

Key responsibilities:

  • Driving End-to-End Catchment Investigations. Have responsibility across the full investigation and pre-promotion process for your programme, ensuring robust and timely delivery.
  • Defining Investigation Needs. Set clear requirements from the outset, articulating the risks of missing data and its implications for long-term investment planning.
  • Contractor Oversight & Risk Management. Defining the contractor scope and priorities, ensuring alignment with the tactical objectives and escalating programme-level risks to senior sponsors.
  • Solution Development. Oversee the development of asset and catchment solutions that optimise TOTEX and align with business objectives.
  • Investment Planning. Assess cost-beneficial options against the wider waste business plan and constructively challenge tactical and strategic investment plans.
  • Develop Business Cases. Profound communication and written skills to articulate the need for catchment or asset investment against a defined plan.
  • Post-Project Assurance. Ensure post-completion assessments are conducted to validate capital works and identify any latent risks.

What skills would be desirable to us

  • Wastewater Technical Expertise. Foundational level engineering and/or hydraulic knowledge of wastewater assets and catchments.
  • Risk Management. Proven experience in identifying, assessing, and managing risks. Whether that be at a project level or at an asset.
  • Performance Insight. Understanding of asset-specific performance measures and awareness of potential performance shortfalls across wastewater infrastructure.
  • Data Proficiency. Familiarity with a range of asset data types and systems and how to manipulate these to be able to show trends and articulate the decisions made.
  • Analytical Mindset. An analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and integrate multiple datasets to investigate, diagnose, and develop effective solutions at both asset and catchment levels.

You will also benefit from having any of the below:

  • Catchment Modelling Awareness. Familiarity with catchment modelling tools and their role in supporting investigation and planning activities.
  • Regulatory & Environmental Understanding. Awareness of relevant regulatory frameworks and environmental policies affecting wastewater operations.
  • Programme Support Experience. Exposure to programme and portfolio management processes, with an understanding of how they contribute to tactical and strategic delivery mechanisms.
  • Asset Management Exposure. Foundational experience in asset management, with a developing understanding of asset lifecycle principles and performance considerations.

Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it’s important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life. We know that juggling childcare responsibilities or getting that ideal work/life balance isn’t always easy!
