Location: We have 3 x Duty Ops Scientist opportunities to join the Water Quality & Production department at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you? The Duty Operations Scientist will be based in the Service Delivery Centre, at our Buttershaw site in Bradford.
Work type: Permanent. Working a 12-hour per day, shift pattern nominally 9am until 9pm.

The Duty Ops Scientist will deliver asset and operational excellence in pursuit of health and safety excellence; regulatory compliance; operational integrity and resilience; operational efficiency and business plan out performance.
The role will transform Water Quality into a safe, integrated, productive, and reliable entity. Drive significant improvements in productivity through improved ways of working and consistent application of IT and technology and regulations.

As our Duty Ops Scientist, you will:
- To undertake the centrally based role of water quality consultant providing water quality support and a focal point within the centre for the business.

- Act as key WQ focal point for Team, business service partners and stakeholders.
- To optimise, assets, systems, processes, and procedures in line with continuous improvement in water quality performance and protection of public health always both (distribution and production sites)
- To support and deliver key initiatives and projects in relation to Water Quality Compliance, Customer Contacts, Network, Production and Capital support.
- Provide the best customer service and resolution of water quality related contacts.
- Minimise water quality related contacts and to help deliver our vision of taking responsibility for the water environment for good.
- Preparation of investigatory reports, providing sample results and updates for Bronze/escalation meetings.
- To help lead a co-ordinated, planned, and effective response to incidents of events across the whole of the business, and to ensure that processes, procedures are followed and agreed actions or requirements are implemented.
- Build relationships at all levels within YW, service partner organisations and work with other key stakeholders
- Provide an expert advisory service in respect of both technical and regulatory aspects of water quality, Distribution and Production sites
- Responsible for developing processes and procedures to further compliance and customer service.
- Responsible for ensuring systems are in place to monitor levels of compliance against the different water quality targets, standards, and customer contact rates.
- Provide reports to senior managers for all operational water quality/performance related matters.
What skills, experience training & qualifications you will need:
- Understanding of water treatment and distribution processes, water quality regulations and standards
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to deal with incidents and events to protect public health and to minimise impacts on water quality compliance.
- Comprehensive understanding of Water Quality processes and regulatory obligations.
- Ability to participate in team working initiatives.
- Extensive knowledge of YW corporate systems and confident in the use of primary software packages.
- Analytical skills and the ability to fault find processes and systems.
- Ability to handing large amounts of diverse data and to spot potential risks to compliance.
- Be able to establish meaningful performance measures or methodologies.
- An aptitude to use route cause methodology in the understanding of water. Quality events or failures and implementing steps or processes to prevent reoccurrence.
- Demonstrated Influencing and negotiation ability.
- Project leading and co-ordination skills.
- Report writing skills.
- Ability to lead projects and working groups.
- Be able to use own initiative.
