Personal Injury File Handler – Leeds

A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Personal Injury File Handler to join its established team in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled legal professional with experience handling non-litigated personal injury claims to join a forward-thinking practice that values quality, efficiency and client service.

The successful candidate will manage a caseload of non-litigated personal injury claims valued up to £100,000, progressing each case efficiently from initial instruction through to settlement. The role requires sound legal judgement, a strong understanding of procedural rules and a commitment to achieving timely and cost-effective outcomes for clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of non-litigated personal injury claims valued up to £100,000 efficiently and profitably
  • Meet performance targets relating to settlements and fee recovery
  • Deliver outstanding client care and achieve excellent client satisfaction ratings
  • Handle Fixed Fee and Portal RTA claims, including untraced and uninsured MIB matters, maximising damages by pursuing all appropriate heads of loss
  • Obtain and review medical and non‑medical evidence in line with track requirements and recoverability
  • Use the PI Calculator and other tools to support case progression
  • Advise clients on risk areas, including fundamental dishonesty and ensure evidence is properly cross‑referenced for accuracy
  • Liaise with clients, insurers, litigation friends, attorneys or Deputies to obtain timely instructions
  • Comply with professional conduct rules, internal policies and procedures
  • Keep clients regularly informed throughout the claims process, using both technology and personal engagement
  • Build positive working relationships with defendant Solicitors and Insurers to promote effective collaboration
  • Verify the authenticity and validity of claims and continually assess prospects of success
  • Manage costs effectively to minimise write‑offs and ensure profitability
  • Instruct only approved experts and counsel and obtain all relevant documentation to advance claims
  • Negotiate liability and quantum offers efficiently, prioritising telephone discussions where appropriate
  • Organise and prioritise daily tasks, post and emails to ensure timely handling of all matters

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Proven experience managing your own claimant caseload of non‑litigated personal injury claims, ideally within RTA Portals and the former Multi Track (now Intermediate Track)
  • Experience handling EL, PL or OL cases would be an advantage
  • Track record of meeting fee or settlement targets
  • Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and relevant case law, with the ability to progress claims efficiently in line with procedural requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice
  • Strong client care and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to liaise effectively with third parties, including insurers, experts and counsel
  • Proficient in case management systems (such as VF) and Microsoft Office
  • Highly organised, with good time‑management skills and a proactive approach to resolving issues
  • A willingness to support and mentor colleagues where needed
