Job Introduction

Are you a YH Customer who is passionate about improving housing services and amplifying the voice of fellow customers? Do you want to help shape the future of social housing in Yorkshire? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

At Yorkshire Housing, we believe everyone should have a place they’re proud to call home. We’re looking to expand our Customer Insight Committee by appointing up to three new Members to help us ensure our services reflect the needs, priorities, and experiences of our customers.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work with other customers and colleagues to ask thoughtful questions, bring constructive challenge and make sure customer voices are front and centre in how we improve services. The Committee helps make sure customer insight is heard in the right places, including by the Homes and Places Committee and Board. It has already helped shine a light on areas like repairs, aids and adaptations, and anti‑social behaviour, supporting action and improvements shaped by real customer feedback.

The stuff that sets you apart

  • Customer Focus: You understand what matters to customers and can represent their views with clarity and empathy. You’ll build trust and positive relationships with other customers to ensure their voices are heard.
  • Leadership & Influence: You’re confident in holding Yorkshire Housing to account and contributing to service improvements. You bring ideas, challenge constructively, and help drive change from a customer perspective.
  • Independence & Integrity: You can remain impartial, act with integrity, and balance customer needs with organisational risks and responsibilities.
  • Analytical Thinking: You have an eye for detail and can ask the right questions to uncover the root of issues. You’ll help the committee make evidence‑based recommendations.
  • Communication Skills: You’re a good listener and a clear communicator. You can express your views constructively in meetings and act as a positive ambassador for Yorkshire Housing in the wider community.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: You value the opinions of others and work well in a team. You’re supportive, respectful, and help create a safe space for open discussion.
  • Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: You’re committed to fairness and respect for all. You’re open to learning and can help identify and challenge discrimination or exclusion.
  • Willingness to Learn: You’re open to developing your understanding of the Regulatory Framework for Social Housing and how Yorkshire Housing operates.
  • Basic IT Skills: You’re comfortable using email and joining online meetings (e.g. Microsoft Teams).

What’s involved

  • Attend at least 75% of quarterly committee meetings (mostly online)
  • Prepare by reading meeting papers and contributing to discussions
  • Take part in onboarding, training, and governance reviews
  • Represent Yorkshire Housing positively in your community and beyond

What’s in it for you?

This role offers a time commitment of around half a day per month, with a payment of £3,375 per annum. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself and make a significant impact.

Inclusive and diverse work environment

At Yorkshire Housing, we’re actively building an inclusive and diverse work environment where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
