We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Catering Manager with strong cooking and kitchen leadership experience to take overall responsibility for our restaurant at Dean’s Scarborough Garden Centre. This is a working manager role, where you’ll spend a significant proportion of your time supporting the kitchen team, cooking, leading service and maintaining standards on the floor, not just managing from behind the scenes.
You’ll lead both front and back of house teams, rolling up your sleeves during busy services to ensure great food, great service and a well-run operation every day. This is a key role within Yorkshire Garden Centres, offering real ownership, variety and the opportunity to make a visible impact.
This role is 40 hours per week, with a consistent Tuesday off and alternate weekend working (flexibility required for month end and holiday cover - self managed by Catering Manager). If you thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment, enjoy leading from the front and have the experience to support and guide a team during service, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing:
- Working hands-on in the kitchen, supporting food preparation, cooking and service as required
- Leading by example during busy services, setting pace and standards
- Managing the day-to-day running of the restaurant, front and back of house
- Coaching, training and developing kitchen and front of house teams
- Managing staffing levels, rotas, holidays and sickness year-round
- Recruiting new team members with support from People & Culture
- Overseeing stock control, ordering, wastage and budgets
- Ensuring full compliance with food safety, hygiene and legal requirements
- Maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation and cleanliness
- Handling customer and team issues calmly and effectively
- Ensuring clear communication between kitchen and front of house for smooth service
What we’re looking for:
- Substantial cooking and kitchen experience within a catering or hospitality environment
- Experience in a hands-on catering management or senior kitchen role
- Confident, visible leader who enjoys being on the floor and in the kitchen
- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen best practice
- Experience managing rotas, staff and budgets
- Passion for food quality, consistency and presentation
- Organised, decisive and resilient under pressure
- Clear communicator and practical problem-solver
