This is a great opportunity to combine people leadership with technical oversight, influencing how we deliver value across our technology landscape. This is a hybrid role, a mix of working from home plus time in our central Leeds & Bradford offices.
About the role
As an Engineering Team Manager, you'll lead, develop and motivate a team of Engineers, driving high-quality delivery and continuous improvement across services and change initiatives. You'll work closely with stakeholders, architecture and delivery partners to ensure solutions are delivered effectively, safely and in line with strategic priorities.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing engineering team, building capability and supporting continuous development
- Own the delivery of engineering change, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and aligned to business needs
- Collaborate with stakeholders, product teams and architecture to shape solutions and influence longer-term technology plans
- Manage third-party partners, ensuring delivery meets agreed standards, commitments and expectations
- Set and uphold engineering standards, assuring technical quality, risk management and best practice
- Oversee planning and prioritisation, balancing delivery, cost, risk and resource management
- Contribute to budget planning, forecasting and cost centre management
- Act as a deputy to senior engineering leadership, supporting succession planning and wider capability development
About you
You're a strong people leader with a solid engineering background and a track record of delivering change in complex environments. You're comfortable balancing delivery, people and commercial considerations, and thrive in a collaborative, evolving organisation. You'll have:
- Experience leading and developing engineering teams, building capability and driving high performance
- Strong understanding of engineering delivery, including planning, prioritisation and service support
- Experience working with stakeholders across technology and the wider business to shape and deliver outcomes
- Ability to manage third-party suppliers, ensuring performance, value and alignment to objectives
- Strong awareness of cost, risk and resource management within engineering delivery
- Experience contributing to financial planning, forecasting and budget management
- A focus on continuous improvement, with the ability to influence standards, ways of working and organisational change
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead and inspire others
- Ideally have experience of APIs and Java Spring Boot Microservices
