YBS is going through a transformation journey and with this, our Risk teams are growing to ensure we can support and protect the Society.
We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a Model Risk Oversight Manager to join our second line of defence Risk team, based at our Leeds head office (with flexible working options available). In this role, you’ll be a technical subject matter expert on model risk, with a focus on the independent validation of credit risk models including (but not limited to) the IRB Rating system, IFRS 9, Stress Testing and Scorecards, and you will be part of a Model Risk Oversight team responsible for model oversight across the whole organisation. You’ll be part of a team that values flexibility, collaboration, and continuous development, and where your voice and ideas are welcomed.
About the role
- Leading both model-specific technical validation and thematic reviews, providing insightful and meaningful findings on model risk.
- Assessing models for data appropriateness, methodology soundness, validation quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business, using our Oversight Methodology to guide engagement.
- Offering clear, constructive challenge and expert advice on complex issues, including at Chief Officer level.
- Presenting findings at Model Risk Committees and escalating key issues to Executive and Board Risk Committees when needed.
- Driving improvements in oversight practices and helping shape the future of the Prudential Risk function.
- Supporting the Lead Manager Model Risk Oversight, including deputising when required.
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings a mix of technical expertise and strong communication skills. You might have experience in:
- Risk management within the banking or financial services sector.
- Understanding of modelling techniques, especially in Retail Credit (e.g. IFRS 9, IRB), Treasury, or Finance.
- Translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for a range of audiences.
- Working independently and managing your time effectively within a structured oversight framework.
- Experience in an oversight or assurance role (desirable but not essential).
