We are looking for a dedicated Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner to join our progressive multi-disciplinary team , as we strive to deliver high quality care to a diverse patient cohort. The successful applicant will be joining an exciting and rapidly-growing Nursing & AHP team, providing specialist nursing and ophthalmic care across subspecialties within ophthalmology. Clinics include cataract, glaucoma, cornea, macula, diabetes, surgical, emergency eye care and many more. You will be adept at triaging emergency ophthalmic conditions and managing these patients in clinic, supported by the multi-disciplinary team. You will also be part of delivering sight-saving intravitreal injections at our site at York Community Stadium, recently recognised as a national centre of excellence for training. Applications are welcomed from those readily trained in intravitreal injections, and those willing to learn, guided by our in-house training programme., Our Ophthalmologists specialise in all areas – cataracts, glaucoma, VR, macular, oculoplastics, oculomotility, diabetes, medical ophthalmology etc. As a result of increased demand, we are looking to increase capacity by employing a dynamic, enthusiastic ophthalmic trained nurse to join our Nurse Practitioner team as we develop nurse-led services based at York Hospital and The York Community Stadium.

As part of the team, you will be developing follow up clinics for various ophthalmic sub-specialties: post-op cataracts, oculo-plastic surgery, urgent referrals, outreach service to other departments & wards. There is also the expectation that you will undertake training to become an Intravitreal Injector, to support our rapidly-growing macular clinics. You will develop and understanding of accurately triaging patients into urgent referral clinics, and through seeing these patients when they arrive., Working hours are varied – shifts typically cover 07:30-18:00 Monday to Friday. The York-based team also provide an overnight and weekend on-call service, dealing with eye emergencies as they come in. Occasional weekend work is expected.

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. Are you an enthusiastic ophthalmic nurse with a passion for providing exceptional patient-centred care? Maybe you’re already trained in ophthalmology, and you’re looking to take the next step in your career, with a desire to take on role-specific training opportunities., Applicants must be registered nurses, with at least 2 years’ post-registration experience in ophthalmology. You should be ophthalmic-trained; a recognised ophthalmic qualification is desirable, with evidence of recent relevant training in eye care. Further and continuous training will be provided to the post-holder.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a desire to continue independent learning.

Relocation Package
