The Neonatal Governance Lead will take responsibility for leading investigations around significant events and serious incidents, producing and monitoring action plans. The post holder will provide support and information to staff, ensuring that any learning from incidents is shared and that changes in practice have been embedded to prevent re-occurrence. This will include collaborative working with Maternity and Paediatrics. The role will also involve working closely with the Neonatal Education Lead and include educational elements., The Neonatal Governance Lead Nurse will promote a culture where clinical governance and patient safety are integrated into the care and wellbeing of all patients, staff,and families, promoting a culture of participation, openness, and accountability.They will ensure the appropriate level of investigation is undertaken in response to incidents, reflecting the severity of incidents.
The post holder will support staff and guide them in the management of incidents and complaints, promoting reflection on practice and disseminating learning. They will lead on the implementation and management of change in response to learning from incidents and audits, ensuring that any necessary actions are taken to improve practice.
The postholder will report to and participate in, relevant Trust and Network level Governance and Risk meetings and will attend ODN forums. This will include oversight of policy development and dissemination for both units.
The role will support the Neonatal Clinical Education Lead to share and implement learning and audit as appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have experience of audit and change management and working knowledge of the incident process. The post holder will require good IT skills as they will be involved in the collection and maintenance of accurate data, such as Badgernet and NNAP. Time management skills and the ability to manage their workload will be essential.
